Wow wow wee wow. What a wild and crazy build 😍

I'm so very proud of myself for all of the work I put into this project. This process has been full of so many ✨firsts✨

From writing and being awarded a grant❗to working with EVA foam 🛠️ from competing in a cosplay competition 💐 to having a cosplay photoshoot in public in broad daylight 🤓 it's truly been epic 💖

I will also not shy from saying it was very difficult! I didn't set the most realistic goals at the start, and that led to burnout and frustration. The best I can do is turn that frustration into better planning for the next time! There is so much beauty to be discovered in taking one's time 💮

I also want to give a million "Thank Yous!!!" to the North Carolina Arts Council for funding my project. Without this grant I wouldn't have been able to swiftly acquire all the great tools and materials I used to make this costume! I learned so much about foam armor crafting and I'm so grateful to have this knowledge in my skill set.

Big thanks to my friends who helped with proof reading my grant, helping me syran wrap and duct tape myself, dealt with my absence while I locked myself in the studio all winter, and helped me suit up in this costume every time I've worn it. Y'all the realest 🥰

As for next steps, I'm entering a transition period this winter in which I'll be packing down the studio in preparation to move next year! There's much paring down and prep work to be done, but I'm also gonna take this time to work on some smaller scale thrift projects that are near and dear to my heart!

Also, even though I have to pass on PlaythroughGC this year, I will be at MAG come January ❣️ probablyyy not gonna have time for a whole new cosplay build before then, but I'll have space to step up my trinket trade & ribbon game 😘

Do you have a graduate in your life who deserves a unique gift?! I've made some pillow cats that represent the high schools of Onslow ❣️ (not pictured: Dixon) the cats are 2ft wide, sport the school colors, and wear their school's emblem with pride! Took a brief pause on cosplay building to prepare merch for a huge community event in my city next month! These cats are all two tone representations of the school colors of various High Schools in my county 😍 they'll make great graduation gifts, and they will be available at the Jamboree next month 👍🏻

Time got away from me last week as I crunched for the con, but here's one more update on the build 😍

Gloves are assembled and render my hands effectively useless 🤣

Big Gear has a few coats of paint on her now

Fasteners are installed on all my armor pieces

And the helmet is so almost done, just gotta adhere the eye acrylics and the forehead gear

Another week, another update!

I completely remade my gear ears, because once I sized the old ears up against the helmet, they were comically small 😅

I got my fabric paints in and did some test swatches, the color is gorgeous and the coverage is thorough even when stretch is applied 👍🏻👍🏻

I made my gear for my back, as well as new finger tips for my gloves, because the first iterations were just too tiny looking. I'm digging the coverage on the new ones ❣️

All in all, I'm feeling great about my progress! I overcame a setback I was experiencing for my gear prop too, so now that we're past that I can begin construction on that piece. It's all coming together, but man oh man am I feeling the cruuuuunch 😬😬😬

Happy New Year! It's a weekly Gearshift update!

Pictured here are the breastplate, panties, thigh guards, shins, bracers and some detail accents. All of these items are now sanded down, sealed at the seams, and ready for primer!! I've also made some shoe covers so I can layer them up with foam.

It's gonna be a challenging week, but I'm excited to level up!
