Charles Wesley was a follower of Jesus, poet of the Kingdom, preacher of the Gospel, theologian of grace, lover of the poor, enemy of injustice, redeemed sinner. In his lifetime he wrote almost 9000 hymns and poems. Most prolific worship song lyricist in the 2000 year history of Christian faith. The songs he wrote fueled the great English revival of the 18th century. This page is dedicated to prom
ote a specific project that takes a bit of its inspiration from Wesley himself. His hymns were considered by many people of his age to be radical at times because he would write his religious poetry in metric settings that step outside the customary boundaries for hymn writers. Also, his lyrics were considered by some to be too "personal" and passionate. And if those things were not enough, sometimes he and his brother, John Wesley, would use modified folk melodies in worship. We are taking the deep and spiritual lyrics of Wesley and set them to contemporary genres. Selecting musical styles to do justice to the message of the song, we offer a little Rock and Roll, Rhythm and Blues, Country Ballad, and Contemporary Praise and Worship. We hope to inspire others to do so, as well.
