"The Medium"- Gian Carlo Menotti
Madame Flora is a “Psychic Medium.” With the help of her daughter, Monica, and Toby, a mute servant, she attempts to cheat clients through her fake seances. Monica pretends to be the spirits of those who have passed on while Toby controls the lights and moves the furniture. During one of these seances, Madame Flora is suddenly touched by a spiritual hand that cannot be explained. This mysterious event drives her toward violence, insanity, and ultimately murder. (Duration: 1 hour)
Staring the talents of Myka Murphy, Kelly Singer, Kristen Marchiafava, Keaton Ross, John Siarris, and JoAnna Pope.

"Gianni Schicchi" – Giacomo Puccini
Following the eerie and tragic story of "The Medium", we will present a modern-day production of Puccini’s only comic opera, "Gianni Schicchi".
Our version is set in 20th-century Mississippi and is sung in English. It is 1992, and the wealthy Rosco McNutty is lying dead in his bed. His relatives have gathered around him to “mourn his passing;” however, what they are really interested in is learning the contents of his will. All of them panic when they realize that he has cut them out! To devise a scheme, they enlist the help of a notorious local rogue – Gianni Schicchi (Johnny Skeeky). While this hilarious comic opera begins with a death, it ends in comedy! (Duration: 1 hour)
Starring the talents of Andre Chiang, Kelly Singer, Myka Murphy, Austin Williams, Dustin Gonzalez, Kristen Marchiavava, Keaton Ross, Tony Offerle, John Siarris, JJ Haight, JoAnna Pope, Derek Meler, Christopher Hart, and Jerry Morgan.

Opera Mississippi began as the Jackson Opera Guild in 1945. The company has gone through several name changes over the years. In 1970, the company changed its name to the Mississippi Opera Association. In 2020, it became Opera Mississippi as it celebrated 75 years.
Our mission for 75 years has been to provide our community and state with the most dynamic musical stage productions possible. A founding member of the national Opera America organization, Opera Mississippi holds the distinction of being the ninth oldest continuously operating opera company in the United States, and the state’s only professional opera company. We are proud to be an integral part of the remarkable artistic heritage that shapes our state, and each year thousands of Mississippians and visitors attend and benefit from our quality performances.
Some of the remarkable, internationally known singers that have graced the Mississippi Opera stage are Beverly Sills, Monserrat Caballe, Robert Merrill, James McCracken, Roberta Peters, Jan Peerce, Richard Tucker, Normal Treigle, John Alexander, Renée Fleming and many others. This parade of extraordinary artists will continue!
Beyond our main stage productions, our activities include a variety of educational and community outreach programs. Each year we present educational performances to students, as well as a variety of other performances for citizens of all ages, including our exciting musical theatre cabarets. We also offer annual opportunities to professors and students from every college and university in Mississippi in order to help them achieve their professional goals. In addition is our annual John Alexander National Vocal Competition, (named in memory of the late internationally known tenor and Meridian, MS native,) which is the only nationally advertised music competition in the state. This event is designed to recognize and award outstanding vocal talent in both opera and musical theatre. In 2019 alone, we had 96 singers from all over the United States come to Jackson to compete.
For our famous “Cabaret at Duling Hall” Series, Opera Mississippi presents performances at this well-known entertainment venue located in the historic Fondren district of Jackson. Shows are on scheduled for Monday nights throughout each season.
These fun and relaxed concerts have become more and more popular with our patrons, who can hear wonderful musical theatre performers up close. Music for this series is chosen from the vast world of American Musical Theatre and popular music.
