I have dreamed of hosting a book festival in Northampton County, North Carolina, for decades. When I shared the idea with Lillie Pernell, the manager of the Northampton Memorial Library, she and Hugh Davis said yes before I could even finish my sentence. They have been incredible friends and co-hosts of the George Moses Horton Book Festival.

Our goal is to bring authors and illustrators from across the country to rural eastern North Carolina while also showcasing talented individuals from Northampton County. Here are some of the talented authors we’re featuring, and we’ll update the list in January.

See you all on April 19, 2025!

As the co-chair for the 2025 George Moses Horton Book Festival, I am thrilled that we are just five months away from our second event! The 2023 festival was a tremendous success, thanks to the generous contributions of friends and first-time sponsors.

As we continue to grow, we’ve launched a crowdfunding campaign for the 2025 festival, and we’re off to a fantastic start. Click the link below to support the festival and our annual George Moses Horton Scholarship. Your generosity is greatly appreciated, and we can’t wait to see you on April 19, 2025!

Stay tuned for the list of our author lineup in December. Please remember that the festival is FREE and open to the public!

SAVE THIS DATE!

Last week, I had a great meeting with my co-chair, Lillie Pernell, regarding the 2nd George Moses Horton Book Festival. The truth is, we began working on the 2025 festival just days after the 2023 festival ended. The key to a successful festival is early planning, a great co-chair, and wonderful volunteers. I am proud to say we have all of those assets and more.

The biggest change we are making is that, although the Northampton Memorial Library and Moses Productions are still partnering, we made the joint decision to move the festival to the Northampton County Wellness Center to utilize their indoor recreation room. We are so grateful to Bonnie Bentall and the entire staff at the Wellness Center and we are so excited!

We will begin sharing our author lineup and additional details starting next month, so save this date and tell all your friends to meet you in Jackson, North Carolina, on April 19, 2025!
