This year at Premier Orchestral Institute (POI 2026), we experienced so many unforgettable surprises!

We made new friendships, discovered incredible hidden talents from around the world, and witnessed inspiring musical moments that will stay with us for years to come. One of the biggest surprises was meeting the winner of our International Composition Competition, who turned out to be not only a gifted composer but also an outstanding pianist, José Plúa Trujillo!

Our Tango Rendezvous team was simply spectacular this year. A heartfelt thank you to our two Alejandros—especially Dr. Alejandro Drago. Your passion, commitment, and endless energy for POI never went unnoticed… even after your unexpected appendicitis that morning! Your dedication inspired us all.

Thank you as well to Francy, Temperance, Marcus, and our own fabulous cellist Mert. Each of you brought extraordinary artistry, professionalism, and joy to this year’s festival.

POI is much more than music—it is a place where friendships are built, talents are discovered, and unforgettable memories are created.

Congratulations to Ecuadorian composer Josué Plúa Trujillo for winning the 4th POI International Composition Competition! His work “Theme and Variations on a Danzante” will be premiered on June 12, at 7:00 pm at Millsaps College.

Josué Plúa is an award-winning pianist, composer, and orchestral transcriber, who has performed in major venues across Ecuador, Spain, and Colombia. He has collaborated with noteworthy conductors and participated in international festivals and competitions.

This year, we had 7 countries represented in the competition!
Ecuador, United States, Italy, Israel, Colombia, Germany, and Poland

The POI adjudicators included Crafton Beck, Dr. Andrew Sauerwein, and Nico Gutierrez.
