Jennie Wilde (b.1971) is a US-born artist who has been working in clay since 2017, when she left the corporate world to pursue art full time. Her first ceramics class was something of an accident, as she had never imagined herself working in three dimensions. An organic visual language focused on the raw truth of impermanence soon emerged.

Wilde’s work is inspired by the beautiful yet complicated connection we have to the natural world. Growing up on the coast of Massachusetts instilled a belonging to the sea, a place she returns to often, in life and in the studio.

Wilde began showing her work publicly for the first time in 2024. In 2025, she attended her first residency at Watershed Ceramics in Maine. Her first piece sold to a private collector in 2026.

Jennie does not consider herself a ceramic artist, but rather an artist working in clay.

She lives and works in New York City.

Images from another summer studio visit in preparation for WONDER + WILD- this time with artist Steve Carver.

Steve’s masterfully painted surrealist works are a curious delight.

Steve Carver was born and raised in Oklahoma; his English/German/Native American family included firefighters, circus performers, prison guards and shopkeepers. He inherited his love of drawing from his father, an amateur cartoonist. His earlier career was spent as a graphic designer and that discipline continues to inform his work.
His paintings have been shown at Fowler-Mills Galleries, Santa Monica, CA; Anthony Brunelli Fine Art, Binghamton, NY; Herbert Williams Gallery, CFAC, Syracuse, NY; Arnot Art Museum, Elmira, NY; State of the Art Gallery, Ithaca, NY;
Corners Gallery, Ithaca, NY; Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State University and The Corcoran Gallery of Art in
Washington, D.C.
In 2014 his painting Last Creek was the inspiration for 2 one-act plays (Need a Ride by Will Carter and The Postcard
by Arthur Wayne Glowka,) commissioned by the Know Theatre, where they were performed later that year.

In July, I visited the studio of Ronald Mario Gonzales, in preparation for WONDER + WILD, the current exhibition TRADE Design Build . I’m pleased to share a few of these images, and Ronald’s work, with you all today.

WONDER + WILD features work by Scott Ackerman, Steve Carver, Ronald Gonzales, Craig Mains, Satre Stuelke and Sylvia Taylor.

WONDER + WILD will be open this Sunday, Sept 20, from 12-3pm. Don’t miss this show - it closes September 27!

About the artist:

Ronald Mario Gonzalez is a sculptor and installation artist known for transforming timeworn objects and abject materials into haunting serial forms. Since the mid-1970s, Gonzalez has developed a distinctive visual language through reimagining discarded fragments as vessels of memory, identity, and mortality. His practice privileges process and improvisation through material invention and object investigations given human presence and psychological weight to evocative heads, figures, and assemblages. Gonzalez constructs an unsettling, yet deeply resonant sculptural universe memorializing and animating the passage of time and existential complexities of the human condition.

Ronald Gonzalez’s work has been the subject of a multitude of solo and group exhibitions, all over the world.

I hope to see some of you on Sunday!

“A sense of place and belonging is increasingly important to me, especially since my immigration from the Soviet Union. As a result, my work explores landscape and its elements through direct experience of the environment around me. I take bits and pieces of my surroundings and assemble them into imaginary environments. The work investigates the concepts of history, personal memories and everyday rituals, as well as identity and assimilation.
I am interested in the human interaction with nature evidenced by the traces of our presence left in the landscape. My work directs attention to footprints, stains, and other overlooked elements that speak of the temporal quality of the human experience. The fragmented quality of the work alludes to the constant shifts that occur in memory and history.”

Video is helpful in describing the energy and presence of this unglazed ceramic sculpture.

The beautiful, sultry color of Jennie’s work is not a glaze : it is due to the presence of iron oxide in the clay fired at a specific temperature.
