TOMORROW LAUNCHES The digital occupation of SETTLEMENT : follow the work of 30 Indigenous Artists , my self included• Follow 10-13-2020
We are so grateful to Director & Assistant for gathering footage and stories of STTLMNT participating artists across Turtle Island for a gorgeous series of short documentaries. A new featured artist segment will release each week through the winter program. This selection of video is the Director’s visualization of what’s to come, all heart, all Indigenous, all the way! ✊🏽
Featuring the work of over 30 artists Indigenous to North America and the Pacific, STTLMNT is designed as a creative response and claiming of digital space to consider the impacts of colonization on a diverse number of tribal nations who continue to thrive despite its long term effects. Originally to be a month-long encampment in Central Park, Plymouth, UK, to take place summer of 2020 within the context of the Mayflower 400 commemoration events, Settlement was intended to go beyond conversations of Decolonization and actively practice Indigenization as a radically immersive onsite experience. Physical engagement was halted due to the pandemic and has been reimagined as STTLMNT, a vibrant digital occupation! This project has been in process for over two years and we are thrilled to finally open the project to our global audience! Across the winter, the project will include performance, artist discussions and social engagement opportunities, all online. Through the lens of the artist, STTLMNT facilitates an honest representation of complex living Indigenous cultures. Here is our community: www.sttlmnt.org
“This digital occupation is a space to map our stories, on our terms in a landscape unhindered by borders.” - , Settlement concept artist
