Our mission is to enrich the artistic, social, and political life of our community through film. In addition to daily screenings of first run independent and art films, we enhance the viewing experience with educational opportunities such as our cinema literacy classes and pre- and post-film discussions led by members of Ithaca’s impressive academic, cultural, and human services communities. We sh

ow films that have artistic merit and which raise a broad range of issues, including those featured in the annual Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival. Cinemapolis has also made a strong commitment to being the community's local cinema, offering a venue for local filmmakers. Other community opportunities include those for children and high school students, allowing them to see quality films appropriate for their stage of development.

Misery comes to Cinemapolis on 9/11 as part of the Ithaca is Books Festival! A movie that is better than the book!

Misery is a 1990 American psychological horror thriller film directed by Rob Reiner from a screenplay by William Goldman. It is based on Stephen King's 1987 novel and stars James Caan as famed novelist Paul Sheldon, who is held captive by Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates), an obsessive fan. The supporting cast includes Richard Farnsworth, Frances Sternhagen, and Lauren Bacall.

Don't Look Back in Anger opens 9/11 at Cinemapolis!

Don't Look Back in Anger is a documentary film directed by Will Lovelace and Dylan Southern, and written by Steven Knight. It follows the 2025 reunion tour of English rock band Oasis. Alongside rehearsal, backstage and onstage footage, it features the first joint interview of Liam and Noel Gallagher after more than 15 years of estrangement.

The Uprising opens Friday 9/11 at Cinemapolis!

The Uprising is an action period drama film written, produced and directed by Paul Greengrass. It stars Andrew Garfield, Jamie Bell, Stephen Dillane, Tom Hollander, Cosmo Jarvis, Thomasin McKenzie, Jonny Lee Miller, Woody Norman and Katherine Waterston. It dramatises the 1381 Peasants' Revolt in England.

Andrew Garfield stars as the leader of a rebellion against the tyranny of Richard II of England. As war burns across England, he forms an army of the people to face the King’s might in a fight for justice and survival.

Hope opens TODAY Wed. 9/9 at Cinemapolis!

Hope (Korean: 호프) is a 2026 South Korean epic science fiction action thriller film written and directed by Na Hong-jin. The cast includes Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Hoyeon, Taylor Russell, Cameron Britton, Alicia Vikander, and Michael Fassbender. The film centers on a village police chief and his rookie deputy who must defend his local community from a mysterious creature after wildfires sever all communications, while a local hunting party finds itself being hunted deep in the mountains.

The Samurai and the Prisoner opens this Friday 9/11 at Cinemapolis!

The Samurai and the Prisoner (黒牢城, Kokurōjō) is a 2026 Japanese historical drama mystery film written and directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa and based on the novel of same name by Honobu Yonezawa. It stars Masahiro Motoki, Masaki Suda, Yuriko Yosh*taka, Munetaka Aoki, and Ryota Miyadate. It follows Masahiro Motoki as Araki Murashige during the siege of Arioka Castle in 1579.

When a young woman discovers her home was built on land contaminated by a secretive program designed to make toxic waste disappear, she embarks on a five-year investigation to uncover one of the most consequential environmental coverups in U.S. history.

Through never-before-seen depositions, interviews with insiders, and testimony from some of the most respected scientific minds in the field, the film reveals how this dangerous material was intentionally woven into everyday life across the country, entering where we live, work, and play.

There will be a post-screening Q&A with director Galassia Grassetto, Murray McBride, Professor Emeritus at Cornell University, and other special guests.

Admission is complimentary.

The Tale of the Princess Kaguya (Japanese: かぐや姫の物語)is a 2013 Japanese animated historical fantasy film directed by Isao Takahata from a screenplay he co-wrote with Riko Sakaguchi. Based on The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, a 10th-century Japanese literary tale, the film follows a bamboo cutter who works with his wife, whose life changes when he meets a living nymph that turns into a beautiful young woman.
