Medusa Tattoo Studio

Medusa Tattoo Studio High quality custom tattoos in Ithaca, NY. In 2020 we were delighted to be joined by Dan Trocchio, whose highly detailed illustrative work is just breathtaking!

Carol Oddy and Cesar Enciso opened Medusa Tattoo in Ithaca in 2002, and since then we have been busy creating amazing custom tattoos for our clients. We work by appointment only, and appointments require a deposit. Consultations are free and are by appointment, which may be in person or remote. At the moment we are doing most of our initial consultation and booking through our email, medusatattoos

[email protected], and this is definitely our preferred means of contact for any questions as well. We do our best to respond to all emails within two business days. In addition to making beautiful skin art, Medusa Tattoo also provides a gallery space for local artists to show their work, and we have new work on display every six to eight weeks. If you are interested in showing your art in our studio, please contact us. Because we believe in focusing on what we know best, we do not offer body piercing or sell jewelry.

Happy New Year, everyone!

We’re back at work from a much needed winter break, with a couple of changes and updates.

We’re still tattooing by appointment only, Tuesday-Saturday from 11am-8pm. If you want to get work from one of us, the best way to contact us is to email us at [email protected]. Include your name and phone number and a description of the tattoo you would like to get, and we’ll do our best to respond within two business days. Then we can schedule a consultation if necessary, and appointment(s) for the tattoo itself. We’re usually booking at least two months out, depending on the artist.

At this point we’ve found that this is really the best way for us to work, so it’s unlikely that we’ll go back to the walk-in consultations that we used to do - times change!

Although we’ve all had our covid shots, we’re still requiring our clients to wear masks in the store, and we’re still asking people not to bring friends unless both people are getting tattooed.

More than ever we appreciate the support we’ve had from our customers and the Ithaca community as a whole. This will be our 20th year since we first opened, and it’s been a wonderful place to see our business grow up.

Thank you all,
Carol and Cesar

Hello everyone - we hope you’re having a good summer!

Unfortunately, due to the increase in cases of delta variant covid cases, we’ve decided to follow the CDC and New York State Department of Health recommendations and once again require anyone entering the studio to wear a mask.

We don’t like this any more than you do, but we’re trying to keep our community, especially those who, for whatever reason, are not yet vaccinated, safe and healthy.

Thanks for understanding!

Carol and Cesar

Hello everyone!

The CDC and the state of NY have said that vaccinated people don’t need to wear masks in public any more.

However, because we work for extended periods of time in close proximity to our clients, for the moment we will continue to require all of our clients to wear their masks when they’re in the studio. This is to protect our clients and their families that have not yet been vaccinated.

Please be patient with us - we don’t like the masks any more than you do but we also don’t want to cause unnecessary risk to anyone else.

Thank you,
Carol and Cesar

Also please enjoy the completely unrelated photo of the really awesome vehicles parked behind our shop, placed here for attention grabbing purposes!

Hello! We’ve been open for almost a month now and we’re starting to get into the new rhythm. So here are a couple of things:

First of all, thank you to everyone who has stood by us over the last few months - you’ve been incredibly understanding through the shutdown and now that we’re open again you’re all being patient and wonderful as we get used to the current way of doing things, (especially since our ac seems to have decided not to work anymore).

Second, although our hours are still Tuesday -Saturday, for now we are working by appointment only, with a minimal staff, and we’re keeping the doors locked and not answering the phone while we’re tattooing.
If you call the shop and no one picks up, leave us a message, or better yet, send us an email to [email protected] and we’ll respond as soon as we can - usually the same day but definitely within one business day.

Thirdly, please PLEASE wear a mask when you come to the shop. Tompkins county cases are going back up again - this is real, folks. We don’t want to have to close again, but more importantly, we want our beautiful community to be safe and healthy.

Thanks - we love you,

Carol and Cesar

Hello all you lovely people!

We are still on track to open on June 23rd, and are working our way through our call list, so if you’re on our call list but you haven’t heard from us yet, don’t worry, you will!

Here’s how things will work for the next few months:

Tattoos and consultations will be by appointment only and consultations will be by video chat as much as possible. Our door will be closed to the public (and we’re really going to miss all of your visits!) to minimize in-person contact.

You can schedule tattoos and consultations by calling (607)277-4474. If we don’t answer, leave a message - we will call you back as soon as we’re done with the person we’re working on.

For now, we’re working decreased hours and limiting the length of appointments to two hours at a time to reduce the number of people in the store at any one time and the length of time spent in close proximity to other people.

In addition to the usual confirmation call, the day before your appointment we’ll be calling to ask some screening questions, to go over some do’s and don’ts, and to answer any questions you might have. If you get a phone call from us the day before your tattoo, please call back - the screening is so we don’t have to send anyone home on the day of their tattoo if we feel that tattooing them poses a risk to either themselves or their artist. If we don’t hear back from you, you will have to reschedule your appointment. We don’t usually like to use our stern voice, but this is not negotiable.

If you feel unwell in the few days before your tattoo, or anyone you’ve come into close contact with is unwell or has recently tested positive for Covid-19 please reschedule your tattoo. You will not forfeit your deposit if you reschedule for this reason, and we can reschedule you as soon as it’s safe for everyone.

We’re asking people not to bring friends or family to their appointments. The only exception is if you are both getting tattooed and you live in the same household.

Everyone has to wear a mask in the shop at all times (we will be too!).

At the moment we can’t have a public water cooler so please bring water (or some other drink). You’ll need it - It’s getting warm out! Other than that, please don’t bring food with you.

Please don’t come early to your appointment - we’re scheduling time between customers so there’s no contact between them and so that we can clean the shop and be ready for you at your appointment time.

If you also have to work on the day of your appointment, please don’t come straight from work - schedule your appointment so you have time to go home, shower, and change your clothes before you come in.

We realize that some of these things may be a little inconvenient, but we hope you’ll understand that our main concern is to keep our community safe - hopefully this will be temporary! But the fact is that the longer someone is in close contact with another person, the higher the risk. We are required by New York State to be tested before we can go back to work, and every 14 days after that, in order to keep the risk to our clients low. We are trusting you to have the same regard for our health as we do for yours.

If you have any questions about our safety measures, or anything else, please contact us - as always, we are happy to answer them.

Check back for more updates - this is new for us and we will be making adjustments as we get used to the changes,

Carol and Cesar

Hello!!!!

Finally, we have an opening date - if everything goes according to plan, we’ll be open again on June 23!!!

Over the next few days we will be contacting everyone we’ve had to reschedule in the past few months to give you the opportunity to reschedule. Hang in there - we will be calling you! After that we will be taking new appointments. If you’ve already contacted one of us about getting tattooed but you didn’t have an appointment, don’t worry - you’re on the list and we will be calling you too.

There will be a few changes:

For at least the next few months we will be appointment only for both consultations and tattoos. We will not be doing any walk-ins, and we will be closed to the general public to minimize foot traffic. You can schedule appointments by calling (607)277-4474.

As much as possible we will be doing consultations by video chat instead of in person. If you want to schedule a consultation, call (607)277-4474.

For now, we’re working decreased hours and limiting the length of appointments to two hours at a time to reduce the number of people in the store at any one time and the length of time spent in close proximity to other people.

You will not forfeit your deposit if you reschedule for this reason, and we can reschedule you as soon as it’s safe for everyone.

We realize that some of these things may be a little inconvenient, but we hope you’ll understand that our main concern is to keep our community safe - hopefully this will be temporary!

We’ll continue to post updates - it’s going to be awesome to be back to work and to see everyone’s beautiful face (or at least your eyes and eyebrows) again!

Hello everyone!

It’s awesome to see how excited people seem to be that we should be able to reopen soon - thank you all for that!

We have a tentative date in mind for reopening but we don’t want to commit until we have a definite go-ahead from the State, so in the meantime we are revamping our shop slightly (there will be Signage! Woohoo!!!), finalizing new work practices, making sure we have all the supplies we need, and generally getting ready for a summer of tattooing!

As you can probably guess, we’ve had to cancel three months’ worth of appointments, and we need to make sure that those people have the chance to reschedule before we start booking new appointments.
So if you’re one of the people who we had to cancel, don’t worry - we’ll be contacting you in the next week to reschedule. Thanks for being patient - we haven’t forgotten you!
If you’re a new customer (or an old friend who wants a new tattoo), check back in about a week or so - we will be posting info on how we’re handling consultations and scheduling during the still-ongoing pandemic.

Thanks again for your patience and support!

Carol and Cesar
