The key hanging from the beak was the trickiest part. It had to read as metal and delicate without disappearing into the feathers around it. We built the contrast slowly, keeping the shading on the bird consistent while making that tiny key feel like a separate material entirely.

The individual feather layering took a while too. Each one shaded separately to give the chest that dimensional, lifted look.

Here's the truth: outer arms, thighs, calves, and upper back are the easiest spots. Ribs, spine, hands, and feet? Those hurt more. Everything in between is manageable for most people.
