Taking over a gallery wall in the middle of Manhattan for a solo exhibition is one thingโ€”but watching strangers stand in front of your paintings, truly taking them in, is something I will never get used to.

From Transcendence #1 (born from late nights searching for something bigger) to Confluence #1 (where two decades living across two countries finally collided on canvas), every piece carried a piece of my journey onto that wall.

Investment banker. Abstract artist. Both, at the same time, for years.

If this is the first time you're seeing my work, welcome. There's a lot more where this came from.

I trained formally in fine arts in India back in 1990, then set it aside to build a career, a science degree, an MBA, over a decade and a half at major Wall Street banks. The painting never actually left. It just wasn't in front for a while.

Two pieces from my Confluence series, both made in 2021.

They're built from imagery of my childhood in India, layered against two decades of life here in the United States.

One was made from upcycled Indian cotton, synthetic fabric, gold and bronze paint. The other was created using jute tarp, jute vines, actual metal mesh. Different materials, same year, and same series. Neither side cancels the other out. That was the whole point.

Most people carrying two cultures don't get asked to pick one. They just live inside both, every day. These two pieces are what that actually looks like, not explained, just shown.

Some places stay with you long after you leave them.

A landscape-tinged memory piece, built with the same layered acrylic and oil technique Vikash Jha uses across his practice, the gold treeline and blue water don't depict a place so much as the feeling of having left one, held onto and softened by distance.
Every original comes with its own story.

The struggle is quiet. The mark it leaves isn't.

A more restrained, Pollock-influenced piece from the year Vikash Jha turned to painting full time, red splatter against a weathered cream ground holds tension just beneath the surface, controlled but never fully at rest.
Original works are painted once, owned by one collector.

Joy leaves a mark.

This is what it looks like. French for "joy of living," the title mirrors Vikash Jha's own words, that making art is his nirvana, guiding him through life's crests and troughs. The magenta strokes here aren't decoration. They're that philosophy caught mid-motion.

Some connections don't need a map.

Built from acrylic and mixed media, layered with gestural scrawled text over a cosmic wash of blue, black, and neon, Galaxy 1/1 echoes Vikash Jha's ongoing examination of identity, shaped by his upbringing in India and his immigration to the U.S., turned here toward connection and belonging. This one's a true 1/1. Once it's collected, it's gone.

The mind holds more patterns than it shows.

The sixth work in the Introspection series turns inward feeling into something fractured and multiplied, with overlapping geometry and dense dot patterns, color layered until it reads like thought made visible. Positive, colorful, and quietly complex.

Not all fire is destructive. Some of it is clarity.

Part of a seven-work series exploring the emotions that surface when Vikash Jha turns his attention inward, this piece captures joy, enthusiasm, hope, with erupting orange and red pushing against a cooling teal ground, like a thought catching light.

Joy. Hopelessness. Shyness.
No story attached, just the feeling.

The Introspection series asks you to stay a little longer.
