Larry Vogel’s Paris. It’s always a great time for paris, especially during the summer. However, if youre planning to visit, important to know that many Parisians take month-long vacations in August, drastically changing the pace of the city when many local boutiques, bakeries and businesses temporarily close down altering the standard city vibe.

Today marks 50 years since I opened Susan Spiritus Gallery with an exhibition of George Tice’s photographs. At the time, I never imagined that what began as a passion for a photography would lead to 50 years of working with extraordinary photographers, helping collectors find work they love and building lasting relationships along the way.

I am deeply grateful to the photographers who have shared their work with me, the collectors who have welcomed that work into their lives, and the clients, partners and friends who have supported the gallery throughout the years.

Reaching 50 years is a milestone for any business. For a female-founded gallery, it is especially rare. Since 1976, SSG has remained continuously in operation through extraordinary changes in the world in tech, culture and the art world. From typewriters, stamps and landlines to websites, mobile phones and social media, we have endured it all.

As we celebrate this anniversary, I am proud not only of what we have accomplished, but of the community that has made it possible. Whether you have been with us for decades or are new to the gallery, I invite you to visit susanspiritusgallery.com to learn about our artists, revisit favorite photographs and join me as we begin our next chapter.

Here’s to the past 50 years, and to the future of photography.

Photographer Jerry Uelsmann is famous for his pioneering work in photomontage, where he combines multiple negatives to create a single composite image. He manipulates and blends these images in the darkroom using traditional darkroom techniques rather than digital tools.

: Color Ice Forms

Ten years ago Ryuijie began working on a body of photographs called “Ice Forms.”

They started as botanicals frozen in blocks of ice, photographed in black and white with a large format camera. He later expanded the series to include color.
