Out in the far western corner of the U.P., in Ironwood, there is a grand old theatre that has been putting on a show since the Roaring Twenties. 🎭
The Ironwood Theatre opened in 1928, built for a hundred and sixty thousand dollars and designed by a self taught local architect named Albert Nelson in a rich Italian Renaissance style. The very first film to flicker across its screen was the silent classic Wings. When the vaudeville acts came through, a mighty Barton pipe organ nicknamed the Grand Old Lady filled the hall, all 499 pipes of her, and after years of silence she plays again today. 🎶
Movie palaces like this one closed by the hundreds, and this one nearly did too, going dark in 1982. But the town would not let it go. It reopened in 1988 as a community treasure, and the lights are still on. 💡

Tim's All-Star, All-Volunteer Band
A Fund-raiser for the Barton Organ Maintenance Fund
Saturday 5 September 7p
On Saturday, September 5, 2026, our local King of the Keyboards and his friends will present their annual fundraising show, in support of the Barton Organ Maintenance and Repair Fund.
Tim’s All-Star Band is:
Tim Mesun: Keys, Harmonica, Vocals
John Grewe: Drums
Donny Osier: Bass
Paul Butcher: Trumpet, Flugelhorn
Desiree Walowinski: Vocals
"It's such a honor and privilege to continue to perform on the Historic Ironwood Theatre stage," says Mesun. "I have been attending shows at the theater since I was four years old, and I am always so excited to perform here - especially since I get to perform with musicians of the highest caliber for my concerts. These people really know their stuff! It's also a great honor to be able to keep playing the Barton Organ, a truly wonderful instrument which is going to be a hundred years old in two years. I love performing on it, and I am so happy to help try to keep it around for another hundred years!"
Tickets are $15 general admission and are available at the box office, or on-line, here
Don't miss a performance by a fantastic band and the chance to help keep an amazing historic instrument around for everyone to enjoy. We hope to see you there!
Please note: Yes, Tim will play an organ prelude and perhaps one number on the organ during the show, but this is NOT a Barton organ concert. All proceeds from ticket sales for this show will benefit the maintenance of the Barton Organ. Tim and the band are grateful for your support. If you enjoy the show, the band encourages you to make an additional donation to the Barton Organ maintenance fund as you exit the theatre.
Tim truly is a gift to this community - this will be the 26th benefit concert he has performed for area charities! Thank you Tim and thank you to his musician friends.
