The new beginner classes are starting for traditional rug hooking and Oxford punching.
The classes are a 1 day session and are from 11-2 at our shop located at 1751 Kennerly road, Irmo sc, 29063.
Classes are $55 and include everything you need, you bring NOTHING.
They are Oct 17, Oct 24, November 14, Dec 12, Jan 16, Feb 6, March 6, April 3, and May 1. But you only need 1 class!
So pick a date grab a friend or 2 and come learn to Hook or punch!
The class includes the patterns for 2 mug rugs on linen and the wool fabric or wool yarn to hook or punch two mug rugs. Also the wool backing for finishing them.
This is how you learn and try it to see if you like it and want to go further. You will learn the basics and color plan your own set of mug rugs and use all our equipment to see what you prefer. Learn traditional rug hooking or Oxford punching in a small-group class designed for beginners.
This isn’t your childhood latch hook!
Over the three hours (11 AM–2 PM), you'll learn the basic fundamentals of traditional rug hooking or Oxford Punching while creating two practice mug rugs—one using straight stitches, one featuring curves.
All instruction, use of equipment (hooks, frames, scissors), and materials are included.
You will choose wool fabric strips or rug-weight yarn to match your preference as you work,
from the rainbow pile of wool and yarns on the tables.
Most students find Oxford punching faster and more intuitive, while traditional rug hooking offers a rewarding classic approach. Both methods produce similar finished pieces, and you'll have hands-on time with both to discover what works best for you. They can be mixed in the same pice with hardly any difference in appearance.
These are learning pieces—designed to build confidence and technique before you move on to larger projects like stair treads and room-sized rugs LOL.
So pick a date that works, sign up online or by phone, and bring a friend.
Class size is intentionally small and held in our upstairs classroom.
Your welcome to bring lunch or snacks and beverages are provided.
If you can't attend, you can reschedule to the next available session at no penalty.
After class, we're always here to answer questions and support your continued progress at no extra charge.

Sunday was sad…. It was the last day of the Barnyard workshop and everyone was headed home with their rugs… we had fun though! And we can’t wait to see the finished rugs as they works their way through the piece. Mom had Lots of modifications this time as pigs, goats and wisteria were added and two were done with the spring theme! We have already scheduled the next work shop and we hope you can join us. It is June 11-13 and the $375 fee includes your pattern, a zippered pouch, tool kit with everything we use for special effects, proddy tool, Quillie tool, loop lifter, proddy stick, a big eye needle and more are all in there! Plus any specialty yarn or wool for the project. That’s the roving, yarns and wools for the trees, crops, animals and anything else we cover in class. (It’s not the fields or sky or buildings, or any background stuff, but we are happy to help you color plan those parts if you do not have a stash to pull from) also included is a morning treat, lunch and afternoon treats! We have lots of nice lodging only a few miles from the shop and we are now centrally located so it’s an easy drive from so many places and the Columbia airport is easy in and out and only 20 minutes away! This class is kept small because of all the special things we do and it’s a lot of one on one! We even do some dying! So check your calendar and see if the time works for you! It’s a fun class and we break a lot of rules but it’s FUN!!!

Today starts the 3 days barnyard workshop and we look forward to the fun group of gals joining us! A few moved in their stuff yesterday and we really enjoy teaching this class. We do all kinds of fun techniques and play in the dye pots too! The class includes the pattern and a great tool pack of everything we use in class! Neil spent the days we were closed this week redoing the bathroom and it is soooo much better! We know the old one was awful, but it was functioning and he has a long list of things that need to be done on the property rated by importance lol heres a few peaks at how things are settling in as we have time now to rearrange and make the shop better laid out. And don’t forget we will be live tomorrow afternoon for a short show, after the new wools arrives to share it with you!
