No Walls is a three-color lithograph from stone created during Jake’s 2004 semester sabbatical—a period when his printmaking moved toward more gestural abstraction and experimental systems of mark-making.

Printed by hand in an original edition of just 13, each impression captures the layered process of building an image through multiple colors on Stonehenge Bright White rag paper.

A new reproduction of one of Jake’s early oil paintings.

Originally commissioned for Trinity Christian College to capture the beautiful, natural setting of the campus. It was completed in 1977 and includes a hidden logo of the college.

This work captures the beauty of a natural landscape through dramatic skies and lighting inspired by the 17th-century Dutch painters. It was completed during Jake’s second year of college-level teaching and offers an early glimpse into the artistic vocabulary that continues to shape his work today.

The strong color palette and expressive, gestural brushstrokes seen here remain recognizable in Jake’s current work—nearly 50 years later.

Evocative Poetry: Colossians 1: 15-20.
This was a collaborative project with David Versluis, who conceived of the exploded tile construction based on my vessel markings. David completed all templates and planned the installation procedure while I made the tile and fired the 300 pieces, making the assemblage.
We permanently installed it on 3/8” aluminum plates in June of 2014 in the Dordt Univeristy Science Building.

Focus – A 18” by 24” lithograph from stone printed in 2022.

This image features the eye metaphor, almost central to the Apocalyptic Vision series, eyes being one of the most powerful windows to human emotion and mystery. The print employs overprinting transparent color on a black flat, creating a luminous effect, and abstract passages to suggest energy and movement.
