Aug 1-2, 2026 The Roaring Twenties Lawn Party is one of several special events presented by Boston Swing Central this Summer. The Roaring Twenties Lawn Party is as the name implies: a themed, 1920s, outdoor, Jazz Age, Great Gatsby party on the sprawling lawns of the gorgeous Castle Hill at the Crane Estate. Castle Hill features a mansion high upon a hill which was built in the 1920s and overlooks

Crane's Beach and the majestic Atlantic Ocean. The Lawn Party will feature twenties and thirties hot jazz from Brooklyn-based Baby Soda Jazz Band. It will also feature swing dancing lessons, Charleston performances and a vintage fair. This year we have expanded to two full days! Attendees are encouraged to come in twenties-style dress, bring a picnic supper or purchase one on-site, and spend the evening. Please note: Tickets and parking passes must be purchased in advance online ONLY. Tickets and parking passes will be mailed to you. No tickets will be available at-the-door. Boston Swing Central is a dancer-formed, volunteer-run, non-profit dedicated to promoting swing dance. They hold regular dance parties every Friday at their studio in Charlestown and welcome new dancers. Please visit bostonswingcentral.org for more information. Castle Hill, a 165-acre National Historic Landmark, was the summer home of Chicago industrialist Richard T. Crane Jr. and his family from 1910-1949. They entertained in grand style at their 59-room English-style mansion and its surrounding gardens. Now owned by The Trustees of Reservations, Castle Hill on the Crane Estate, is the perfect setting for a lawn party celebrating the music and dance from its hey-day.

In honor of Women’s History Month, we want to recognize that the Roaring 1920s were not a time of freedom and celebration for everyone. For many women, this era followed decades of organizing, marching, and speaking out in the fight for the right to vote. The ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920 marked a historic milestone in that struggle—but the path there was long, and the promise of equal voting rights was still not fully realized for many women, especially women of color.

Through resilience, courage, and collective action, women pushed society forward—advocating not only for political rights but also for greater independence, expression, and opportunity in public life. The same spirit of determination and creativity helped shape the culture of the era, from music and dance halls to literature, fashion, and social change.

As we celebrate the energy and style of the 1920s, every year at the Roaring 20s Lawn Party, we host a Suffragette March/Parade to acknowledge the women whose activism and perseverance helped transform the world around them, led and organized by . Their voices and efforts continue to inspire progress today.
