Every year friends and family come together to bring this home grown feature for the community to enjoy on Halloween night. It’s a labor of love fueled by squeals of joy and shrieks of excitement from all ages and generations.

Seeing everyone come together to make this happen will always be my favorite part of it all. We all find our comfortable range of talents, and learn and grow together through making and doing, working through the challenges and obstacles that pop up around every corner as we make our way toward Halloween each year.

Every year brings unique challenges, but most years the biggest challenges come from Mother Nature herself. First biting beetles and heat, then cold strong winds, then rain… I can’t tell you how many times I thought ā€œthis is the last yearā€ā€¦ every year…

Just when I was at my lowest point this year and ready to admit defeat as Halloween trick or treaters were arriving, the maze took on its own life filling with joyous shrieks and excited squeals as neighborhood kids raced to the back to the now infamous Halloween Maze on Green Mountain Drive. It’s a quiet street with an aging group of neighbors, so I sometimes wonder how far these kiddos wander to get here.

Bringing together friends and family of all ages throughout the months ahead of Halloween and seeing their visions and dreams come through with team work and perseverance is a good reminder that ā€œalone we are unique individuals, but together we are one colorful creationā€ šŸ˜‚šŸ˜… Thanks is never enough to all the amazing people that make this happen every year. šŸ„°šŸ¤—šŸ’Æ

People always ask me if I need anything, and I can’t ever think of what I need. So here’s a list of crap that I used this year:
-absolute butt tons of great stuff foam. Like, 20 cans, maybe.
-batteries. Mostly AA usually
-styrofoam. Straight flat pieces are best, but coolers, anything solid works
-black, red, gray, brown, white spray paint
-acrylic paint, always. All of it.
-gloss spray enamel
-pallets
-variety of wood. 2x4s are too heavy. Best to use 1x4 or 2x3. Small boards to use as stands.
-strobe lights galore
-fog machine fluid
-pallets
-loads of anything creepy
