From our producer, Christina Reynolds — a few words of gratitude and reflection as we close the curtain on Home, I’m Darling. 💛
Thank you. And my apologies for putting this here – oftentimes, there simply isn’t space enough inside a printed program to fully thank and credit all those who helped bring a show to life. Thank you for allowing me to take a moment to reflect.
To our wonderful set design and construction crew: Richard, Greg, Jean and Paul – thank you! You helped weave a rich tapestry of color, layers and artful texture that formed the foundation of our world on stage.
To our stage manager, Nicole – thank you! In the midst of challenge upon challenge, your calm, your dedication, your professionalism and determination to manage an endless list of props, set changes, and wardrobe zips galore. You took on more than anyone could have asked, and you did it beautifully.
To our choreographer, Emma—thank you! (Even though I mostly f’ed up my parts every night, and for that I am sorry) You took a raw list of songs and shaped it into something of beauty that elevated our play, echoing the light, movement, and tone of our story, bridging scenes with lovely choreography and we are so grateful.
To our Valerie Players Board—thank you! Each of you saved my bacon multiple times through the course of this show. AJ – for photos and videos, for being a backstage tour guide, for showing up on short notice, for navigating challenges with aplomb. Cami—for helping solidify our marketing opportunities and being a sounding board for all the things that went with it, including backstage tours and the like. Katherine—for bringing perspective and support when I needed it most. Linda—what would we do without you? From printing programs to hosting our balcony group to everything in between, you are always there to help, short notice and all. Sue—your guiding hand and pragmatism brings balance, and you show up with a tireless determination, always ready to help keep the show going, lending support wherever we need it most. John—for your wisdom and consultation throughout the show, and for always having the answers when I asked.
To the Valerie Theatre staff—thank you! Ella and Nikki, it was a joy to share time with you for two beautiful, full weeks in the theatre, and I’m so grateful for your help with all the small, behind-the-scenes things you do to make a show run. Tim—thank you! You helped us in a tight spot and we would have been lost without you. Bobby—thank you! There really aren’t words enough to express how it feels, as an actor, to put your trust in the person running the House. For me, we actors on stage are just one part of the story. The lights, the sound, the music, the very cadence of the story hums to life at the helm of the board. This thread, this bond between house and actors is sacred and my heart is full of gratitude that you are there, for all of us.
To Laura Wade, thank you for such a superb script. It sucked me right in the moment I read it nearly two years ago, and it has been a privilege and honor to share it with our community.
To Jeremy—thank you. For all the things, for all the moments, for all of it. You know me like no one else and still, you love me. (And also, you are a kickass director, and I think you're super cool.)
To our friends and family—thank you. You sacrifice time, get-togethers, sometimes emotional space even, all for the good of the play. And at the end, you welcome us back with open arms and juggle schedules, miles on the road and life to show up and watch us perform, knowing that visits will be short and we’ll be pulled in too many directions to give you the time and attention we wish we had.
To Tiffany, Greigh, Katherine, Lauren—thank you. As a producer, it was a dream come true to have the opportunity to collaborate with you, and as an actor, I was humbled to share time on our stage with each of you. The time and space we made for this show will live on in my heart always.
To our audience—thank you. Without you, there isn’t a show. You showed up, and you brought with you a willingness to laugh, to feel sorrow, to see and hear our story and hopefully, be moved by it. We are so thankful for each of you.
For all the many, many folks who helped that might not have been mentioned here (Pat, Allison, JoAnna, Eileen, Mark, and the list goes on…) thank you. Thank you for contributing to the success of our production, and for all the countless others behind the scenes, too many to name.
And thank you, kind reader, for letting me share this small reflection before moving on to the next adventure.
With love and gratitude,
Christina Reynolds
