Inspiring the next generation of fiber folks!

Jess King is at Lancaster Yarn Shop with a Trunk Show today 10 - 2 featuring GORGEOUS handspun yarns! Fiber from the family’s own flock of Angora goats is the star of the show and is rounded out with Corriedale and Merino fiber, too.

The Trunk Show includes single ply, double ply, and core spun yarns-- and Jess will be demonstrating how to spin fiber into yarn and talking about life on the farm!

‘I spin yarn to add more beauty to the world.
I spin yarn to be close to the source.
I spin yarn to keep an ancient textile art alive.’
--Jess King

I’m sure someone in your life needs an adorable new hat!
This is the Garter Ear Flap Hat from Purl Soho. We made the toddler size and only needed one 50g skein of Reggae Ombré 😀
There are 6 sizes in the pattern: 3 for children and 3 for adults (the adult sizes would need a second skein.)
We used Reggae Ombré to showcase the gradient, but if you made it in a solid color (maybe Woolstok Worsted?) it’d be a great gnome hat… Halloween is fast approaching, you know 🎃

Join us for a Trunk Show and spinning demonstration on Saturday October 17, 2026 from 10 AM - 2 PM with Jess King, a farmer and fiber artist from Lancaster County!

Jess will bring her hand-spun, hand-dyed *Magic Penny Farm & Fiber Yarn* to Lancaster Yarn Shop! Of Magic Penny Farm, Jess says, “The beauty of this place–trees, river, and wildlife–fuels us for daily work, and we seek to steward it for generations to come.”

Made with fiber from her small flock of Angora goats, one of a kind single-ply, 2-ply and art yarns will be available for purchase along with suggestions for one-skein projects perfect for making absolutely unique gifts for yourself or other fiber artists in your life. Take a spin out to LYS on Saturday to say hello!

In a conversation with Eli McCann, who has written a novel called ‘Stitched,’ someone said to him: “Eli, your book isn’t really about quilting, it’s about the community we build when we share a hobby. I truly don’t think I could do what I do without the people this hobby has brought into my life. I’m so grateful for those relationships.”
Hobbies make our lives richer—teach your friends to knit and crochet (& stitch and quilt!) Find your people!
If you’re local, our Thursday knitting group is lovely, & if you’re anywhere else, join our zoom group!

Garter stitch is great: it’s the simplest to knit, it stays flat on its own, and it doesn’t need an edging to look good!
…but if you *wanted* to change the edge… you’ve got options! 😉
Adding some slipped stitches will give you a different edge and change the look of your piece. The blue one has 1 slipped stitch at the beginning of each row, while the purple piece has an incorporated icord edge (made by slipping 2 or more stitches at the end of every row.)
Which variation is your favorite? 🧶

Ysolda Teague shared a post today that celebrates 50,000 Mussselburgh hat projects posted on Ravelry!! That’s a lot of Musselburgh hats! She asks for our stories about knitting the Musselburgh.
Here are the ones I’ve knit so far, and you better believe I have another one on the needles. Most of mine are sport weight and they’re all different and complicated and simple in their own way. This pattern was simple enough to knit when I was ‘too tired’ or ‘busy’ & engaging enough to be meaningful and remind me that I love to knit.
The pattern is an invitation to creativity and can be a peek into knitter’s habits and favorite techniques. I can’t leave this pattern alone!
Thanks, Ysolda! And congratulations! Stop in and tell@us about your Musselburgh!
