Did you know the The Rolling Stones got their name from one of their biggest influences song?

Muddy Waters titled track “Rollin’ Stone”

On July 12, 1962, 60 years ago today, The Rolling Stones performed their first concert, at the Marquee Club in London. Hear an interview with Mick Jagger about the band's origins in the Library's Joe Smith collection:

The band borrowed its name from a Muddy Waters song. Muddy was one of their earliest influences, and his first recordings with the Son Sims Four are here in AFC's archive. At the second link, hear those sessions, recorded by Alan Lomax and John W. Work III in 1942:

Admission is FREE and the museum will offer complimentary food and a cash bar. 😎

Jose has the utmost respect for the blues and it’s history. You can feel and hear that authenticity and intention through every note that reverberates from his guitar. 🔥

This will be our first in person live engagement in over two years!

To celebrate and continue our mission to make a difference in the land where the blues began, we will be making a $500 donation to the B.B. King Museum, which will help support their Youth Programs. 🙏

👉Fun fact: 6 songs from Jose’s new album “Major League Blues” was written in Indianola during an inspired 2 week stay Jose had here almost 2 years ago.

We stand to inspire, impact, and raise awareness to the present day plights of the Land Where the Blues Began.

The Blues started in these fertile fields that make up the Mississippi Delta. Little did these musicians know that they were laying the foundation for all modern music. Whether it be hip hop, rock n roll, country, pop, or any modern genre of music, it can all be traced back to the Mississippi Delta.

However, despite its nurture, giving us the roots of America’s modern music culture, it is still one of the lowest economical regions in our country with extreme poverty rates, severe healthcare problems, and highly compromised education disparities.

Currently producing concerts at B.B. King’s Historic Club Ebony in Indianola, MS. All shows in benefit of the B.B. King Museum’s Youth Education Programs.
