“I wanted to share the knowledge that was not readily available in my hometown when I was growing up. I figured that even though I have had a great career in the entertainment industry, I still have much to learn. So, why not teach what I know, recruit others to share their knowledge and more? We can learn and thrive together. There’s room for us all to learn grow and succeed. And the great part is, it’s never to late to get started... It feels good. We are helping teens & young adults navigate the Entertainment Industry and associated fields through mentorship programs and hands-on training to prepare them for a future in the Spotlight. It feels great to do it. I remember sitting down with a close friend and industry peer Brittany Brookings and sharing what I wanted to do. She listened intently and said, “You should do it as a midwest conference and not just a small event.” A few years later in 2016, the opportunity was thrown in my lap to do the conference within 5 weeks. Of course, I called Brittany and told her I needed her help. She jumped right in. She’s onto greater things and perhaps will still partner with me on future MECECs, LOL! My mother, Sandra Branch believed in my vision in 2003 and started gearing up to create a non-profit to help my vision and the visions of many others come to pass. So in 2015, The Fractal Group (Founded by my mother), brought Vivica Fox here for a gala to raise funding for mine and many other programs. The Fractal group was our main sponsor along with Sam Ash Music Store, Melomuzique founder Antionne Jackson, Jingles Cleaning services (Cheri and Ali Jingles) and CIA (Children in Action - Janae Gilson Founder). Our Keynote speaker, L.A. Attorney Joe Richardson flew in from California. My former manager Mary Thomas of Artist Unlimited, along with her Billboard charting independent Gospel Recording Artist Elaine Turner, drove in from Atlanta. National recording artist and Stellar Award nominee Royalty 317, stopped in to perform. So many other industry professionals, amateurs and volunteers offered to run with my vision on the grand opening day of the Midwest Entertainment Career Exploration Conference 2016 (MECEC). With Gods grace and everyone’s volunteerism on excellence, we completed it and survived it with joy whoosah... I’m happy to say my team has grown and we are full speed ahead in bringing a better,up to date experience of knowledge, shadowing and training opportunities, live entertainment, prizes and scholarships for our youth at the next MECEC.”
