Act 1, Scene 7. La Salle des États: meaning “the Room of the States”, is the largest room in the Louvre and houses the Mona Lisa.

The first image is a draft rendering of this scene by scenic designers Christopher and Justin Swader. They drew heavy architectural influence from I.M. Pei's Louvre Pyramid, inspired by its modern design juxtaposed with Paris' beautiful old-world buildings. You can also see the intricate lighting design by Bentley Heydt, as well as some of the clever projection design by Katherine Freer.

Next is a paint elevation (just a fancy name for this kind of artistic rendering); you can see how our artists are bringing it to life through theatre magic. The painting of Mona Lisa will be a translucent image applied to thin plexiglass to dramatically play and catch the light on stage. The surrounding work and lighting imitates the room where the painting is housed in the Louvre, while firmly fitting in with our production's visual themes of modern flash and old-world aesthetics.

Don't miss your chance to see this heart-pounding action adventure, onstage now through October 18.

From the IRT Prop Shop 🛠️🕯️
How It's Made: Votive Stand Edition

Our IRT Artisans have done it again, fabricating an electronic votive stand for our current production, The Da Vinci Code, presented by Printing Partners. Properties Shop Carpenter Dan Tracy and Props Associate Amanda Rooksberry began with a handmade plywood base, wrapped in a decorative trim. After covering the base with a layer of joint compound to smooth out the edges, they used multiple layers of paint treatments to create a metal-like texture.
When the stand was completed, our team moved on to wiring roughly 100 tealight candles, powered by a battery housed within the base. The entire votive stand is switch-operated, so our production assistants are able to turn the candles on and off during the show.

We are so grateful to our team for their incredible work! 🌟 You can get your tickets for The Da Vinci Code online now at irtlive.com or the link in our bio.
