Exotic Animal Sunday numero seis

"Chinchilla Tree Rat"
This animal, discovered around Macchu Picchu in 1997, is an odd mixture of a chinchilla, guinea pig and cat. There's not much info on this wild animal, all that is known is that it is the size of a cat and it is similar to another animal that used to be buried with the Incans.

- ran for homecoming queen in high school... but lost
- actually lives in Kentucky

- has a dog and 2 cats
- thinks that because she is in the classy family that automatically means she's classy
- pronounces penguins as panguins
- gets upset around loud noises
- likes to mingle with King Kong
- despite contrary belief, her favorite food is not the tater tot
- loves trashy television and dramatic tv series like One Tree Hill and Pretty Little Liars

Monday Zoo Animal #4
Camel

- the camel is a unique beast
- camels can drink up to 40 gallons of water in one go
- camels lips are split to help them graze
- camels can kick in all four directions with each of their legs
- the oldest known camel is Protylopus, appeared 40-50 million years ago (Eocene) in North America. It had the size of a rabbit!
- there are 17 million camels worldwide
- a female camel is called a cow, a male camel is called a bull and a baby camel is called a calf

the z00 found the camel as the monday zoo animal fitting considering... there were 4 camels on campus today.
and boom goes the dynamite

"African Civet"
This is probably the cutest thing that can come out of Africa. It's the perfect blend of raccoon and cat which pretty much makes the world's greatest creature. They're nocturnal and dominate poisonous creatures like venomous snakes, so it's like your personal terminator, who's cute instead of creepy and old. They also produce a fluid that is used to make perfumes, so when yours die, you can just... squeeze the liquid out and WHAHLAH you have yourself a new scent.

Platypus

- They are a warm blooded, egg laying mammal.
- Male platypi are poisonous, they have a sharp hollow spur on their hind ankles that can kill a small animal or incapacitate a human.
- They don’t have teeth when grown but grind their food between pads in their bills.
- They swim with their eyes, ears and nose shut.
- A platypus has about 800 hairs per square millimeter, which is more hairs per square millimeter than the river otter or polar bear.
- Their vocalizations as similar to a puppy's growl.

FUN FACT: Quinn painted, drew, and sculpted nothing but platypi in art class her junior year (including a self portrait as her as a platypus)
