Hello, September!

As we step into a new month, we’re reminded how powerful our local stages are, not just as places of performance, but as spaces of reflection, connection & community. There are so many incredible shows happening around Indy this month.

In a world that feels increasingly divided, supporting the arts is one of the most human things we can do. It keeps our stories alive. It keeps us connected. Check out the shows happening near you. Cheer on your peers. Uplift a new voice. Invite someone to their first stage play. And if we missed one, please drop it in the comments, there’s enough room for ALL of us here.

Let’s keep building this together.

If you’ve been meaning to check out Fonseca Theatre Company, consider this your little nudge.

Come catch a show. Bring a friend. Meet some artists. Find a new story to love. And maybe become one of the folks who says, “How did I not know about FTC sooner?”

We’ll see you at the theatre.

POV: You give a group of young artists a writers’ table, some spooky ideas, and permission to get creative.

Ghouls & Giggles is officially cooking...
Director & fearless leader Jean Arnold, started our latest session by getting everybody out of their heads & into their bodies with some fun, creative warm-ups. Then the crew hit the writers’ table to read their drafts, make the story even better, figure out what they’ll need for props and tech & prep for vocal rehearsals.

They’re writing it.
They’re revising it.
They’re making the creative decisions.
And eventually, they’re putting it onstage.

We’re not just teaching young people how to be IN theatre. We’re giving them the space & tools to MAKE theatre. We can’t wait to see what these little ghouls come up with.

Yes, we make theatre. But FTC is also a space for artists to create, young people to learn, neighbors to connect & our community to come together.

There’s always something happening here; performances & classes, festivals, workshops & community conversations. If you’re new to FTC, welcome! And if you’ve been with us for a while, there might still be a few things you don’t know.

Come hang with us.

Rice. Beans. Music. Community. We’re bringing it all together.

We’re filling the afternoon with local restaurants serving up global dishes and several live performances, including the Carter Shelburne Band.

Bring your friends. Bring your family. Bring your appetite. Come taste the world through rice & beans and celebrate the incredible cultures, flavors, artists, and neighbors that make our community what it is.

Happy Women’s Equality Day from Fonseca Theatre Company!

Today, we’re celebrating the women who keep our communities moving, our stages buzzing, our stories growing & our creative spaces a little more brilliant.

The artists. The directors. The producers. The educators. The administrators. The caregivers. The leaders. The behind-the-scenes magic makers. The women who make room for other women & the ones who said, “Well, if nobody’s opening the door, I guess I’ll BUILD one.”

We’re grateful for the women who have paved the way, the women making their own paths & the women coming up behind them.

We’re excited to have you with us, Matthew.

The colors, culture & creativity of our Frida-inspired gallery exhibition will now remain on display through September 19. Come wander through the artwork, linger a little longer & celebrate the spirit of Frida with us.

During our last production of Frida Libre, we have collaborated with the Arte Mexicano en Indiana for a group exhibit of paintings. We hope this art will spur deeper perspectives, understanding, and conversations among our patrons.

Arte Mexicano en Indiana es una organización sin fines de lucro que fomenta y promueve el arte, la música y la cultura mexicana en Indiana a través de colaboraciones y mediante la organización y promoción de eventos públicos.

Our S.T.O.R.Y youth theatre classes are about much more than learning lines or performing on stage. They’re about building confidence, finding your voice, making friends, taking creative risks, and discovering what’s possible when imagination is encouraged.

Week after week, we watch students light up as they create characters, tell stories, solve problems together, and cheer each other on. The laughter is loud, the ideas are big, and the growth is incredible to witness. Led by professional teaching artists in a welcoming environment, STORY gives young people the opportunity to explore acting, storytelling, creativity, and performance while developing skills that extend far beyond the stage.

Students come ready to create, connect, and have fun. Along the way, they develop confidence, communication skills, teamwork, and a deeper appreciation for the arts. Many families tell us all of the time that their children look forward to class all week!
