"This is our home. This is our war."
I just wrapped on this commission for a finish/ paint job of a “Phase | ARC Helmet” for ARC trooper Echo from Starwars: The Clone wars! My customer wanted to have it done in time for Indy PopCon to meet and have him sign it!
I initially received this from my customer as a Raw cast from EVO3D and let me tell ya, working on a cast rather than 3D print was really refreshing. It took me back to pre-pandemic days when prop makers would often make resin kits and send them to their friends, i think we should bring that back rather than just 3D printing everything, but back then 3D printing wasn't as accessible as it is now.
Song and dance, as usual, removed all the negative spaces that would be replaced by the visor and mesh for the breaths. Sanded to roughly 800 grit and applied a layer of white for the base coat. Since the helmet had some interesting shapes on it, I had come over and reteach me paint masking and airbrush basics and boy did I forget how much tape we can use. Also, White as a base color is a nightmare to keep clean from accidental overspray dusting.
