This broadcast celebrates the artistry and legacy of composers from the LGBTQIA+ community whose music has helped shape the classical canon across generations. While many of these artists lived in times when they could not openly express their identities, their voices, creativity, and individuality continue to resonate powerfully through their music. This program moves from elegance and lyricism to folk-inspired warmth and sweeping romanticism, highlighting composers whose music remains deeply personal, expressive, and enduring. Featured composers include Poulenc, Chopin, Copland, and Barber.

Rewiring the Orchestra: Check out Maestro Kraemer on On the Aisle with Tom Alvarez!

Matthew Kraemer joined host Tom Alvarez for a wide-ranging conversation about his work as music director of the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, highlighting the orchestra’s innovative production of The Chevalier, a theatrical and musical tribute to composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges. Kraemer discussed the unique intimacy of chamber orchestras, the role of a conductor as both artistic leader and collaborator, and the importance of making classical music accessible and welcoming to diverse audiences. He also reflected on the growth of the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra through new commissions, educational programs, and community partnerships, while previewing an ambitious upcoming season featuring world premieres, silent film concerts, and collaborations with artists such as Ben Folds. Throughout the interview, Kraemer emphasized the transformative power of live music, the value of artistic innovation, and his vision of expanding the orchestra’s reach and impact in Indianapolis and beyond.

The Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra will perform two free, family-friendly concerts in Riverside Park at Taggart Amphitheatre (Thurs. Aug. 27, 7pm) and Holliday Park (Fri. Aug. 28, 7pm) at the ruins!
