This Flashback Friday takes us back to 1993 when the Indiana Convention Center (ICC) leveled up! The third expansion brought a second level with new meeting rooms, a new ballroom, and iconic skywalks connecting guests to downtown hotels.
One of the biggest additions was the Sagamore Ballroom, which remains one of our signature event spaces! We also added 16 new meeting rooms, for a grand total of 419,000 square feet of rentable space.
One of the most impactful features of this expansion was actually OUTSIDE the ICC: the enclosed skywalk system connecting us to downtown hotels like the Westin and Hyatt Regency.
The skywalks gave convention visitors enclosed access to more than 1,000 hotel rooms and nearby parking, which became a huge selling point for Indianapolis, especially during winter events!
