Three brothers spend an evening together in a rented beach house following their estranged father’s funeral. Their brotherly joke-filled evening takes a turn after an unannounced visit from their overbearing, no-nonsense mother and an unexpected message from their late father. Once family secrets begin to reveal themselves, we are left to wonder whether laughter is the best medicine or simply a bandage covering unhealed wounds.

Meet the playwright of Small Jokes about Monsters, Steven Strafford.

Steven is the author of his award-winning solo-show, Methtacular! which has had productions in NYC, Chicago, New Jersey, Maine, Ohio, and California. In 2019, it was performed and recorded at Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago. Small Jokes About Monsters has had productions at 16th Street Theater in Chicago, Lamb Theatre in Sioux City, and Landing Theatre in Houston. His play, The Match Game, will be receiving its world premiere production in April 2024 at Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati. His play, Greater Illinois, will receive its world premiere production in January 2024, Playhouse on the Square in Memphis. His play, The Model Congressman, was workshopped at About Face Theatre in Chicago.
