We're excited to share that 1000 Words Inc. has received a $40,000 grant from theindyfdn, to expand our Business of Art program for 2027.

This support helps us grow the next cohort of the Business of Art accelerator, our pathway to creative workforce development and entrepreneurship for artists local to Indianapolis. People and programs get a boost so more artists can build sustainable, thriving creative businesses.

Grants like this get the program running, but keeping it going year after year takes a community behind it too. If you want to help us grow Business of Art and sustain it for the next cohort of artists, you can give, volunteer, or just spread the word at 1000wordsindy.com (link in bio).

Thank you to the Indianapolis Foundation for investing in artists and in Indianapolis.

Last night, the first cohort of The Business of Art wrapped their final class at 1000 Words, and we couldn't be prouder.

Over the past few months, these artists sharpened their financial literacy, built out their branding and marketing, and polished their portfolios and presentations. Every single participant grew, and the numbers back it up: financial literacy proficiency jumped from 49% to 82%.

This is what it looks like when artists invest in the business side of their gift. 💼🎨

Next stop: Graduation on October 15. Stay tuned as we celebrate this incredible group.

Huge thanks to our facilitators and to the Indianapolis Foundation for believing in this work.

“Watchman” — from our curated collection, built from U.S. currency on archival paper, asking what is “wealth.” (Courtesy of the 1000 Words collection.)
