Many thanks to all who attended the Luis Eades Centennial Art Exhibit this past weekend at the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder, Colorado. The event was a great success and would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in making it happen. This includes the amazing staff at the Dairy Arts Center. This large colorful painting titled Man on the Moon by Luis Eades mixes images from ancient cultures with scenes representing the wondors of space travel. These are themes that showed up in a number of his paintings over the years. This and many other spectacular pieces will will be part of a special public exhibition of Luis Eades paintings at the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder Colorado this weekend. The exhibition will run July 7-9 with an opening reception from 4pm to 8pm on Saturday July 8th.

This 41"x60" oil painting by Luis Eades is titled "Desert". In this piece, he has masterfully combined various desert imagery with lively blocks of color and geometric shapes in a fascinating tapestry of colors and textures. This painting was completed in 1979 and will be included in a public exhibition of Luis Eades paintings July 7-9 at the Dairy Center for the Arts in Boulder, Colorado.

As with many paintings by Luis Eades, this 29"x44" oil painting titled "Kore" contains a variety of imagery including culturally sacred objects. The centerpiece statue depicts an ancient Greek figure known as a Kore. These free-standing figures were created as offerings to deities. The colorful Balinese mask at the top of the painting also carries deep spiritual meaning. These elements are combined beautifully with images from the natural world and the more lighthearted pile of toys. While he clearly had fun with creating his art, Luis Eades also invited the viewer to stop and think. What might all these elements have in common?

This painting and many more will be on display July 7-9 in the McMahon Gallery at the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder, Colorado.

Imagery of stone carvings and statues appeared in a number of painting by Luis Eades. Often, a portion of the carving would appear to be coming to life in full color. As with this 40"x56" oil painting from 1989 titled "Cavalry".

This 16"x24" Casein painting by Luis Eades was completed in 1989. The title of the piece is "Venus". It's part of a series of very original and creative paintings he called "Landscapes of Mars". True to his style, he has embellished the scene with colorful cultural elements to complete his unique take on on the Martian landscape.

This painting will be on display as part of the Luis Eades Centennial Art Exhibit July 7-9 in the McMahon Gallery at the Dairy Art Center in Boulder, Colorado.

This 1984 oil painting by Luis Eades is titled "Reliquae". It's a large and complex piece, measuring 40"x59". As with many of his paintings from that time period, he has included a wide variety of imagery and blocks of color tied together by repeating shapes and themes. As an added touch, he included flowers and pieces of ribbon of various colors painted as if strategically dropped onto the surface of the canvas.

This 46"x62" oil painting by Luis Eades is titled "Primavera". Completed in 1989, it's a beautiful example of a fanciful landscape painting series he produced in the late 1980's and early 1990's. As with so many of his paintings, he created these vivid scenes by harmoniously combining varied and sometimes unexpected elements.

This painting will be on display as part of the Luis Eades Centennial Art Exhibit July 7-9 in the McMahon Gallery at the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder, Colorado.

This 16"x22" oil painting by Luis Eades titled "Benedictus" is another example of his "Intimate Landscapes" series depicting scenes we might see by looking at the ground. He had the gift of seeing beauty in places and objects many people would overlook. Things like the complex patterns of pebbles on the ground or even a flattened can. He then seemlessly added other elements to complete the scene. In this case, illustrations from a Medieval manuscript. The finishing touch was to extend parts of the scene into the borders of the frame.

This painting and many others will be part of an exhibition of Luis Eades paintings at the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder, Colorado July 7-9.

This 32"x46" oil painting by Luis Eades is titled "Equus". He painted this celebration of the horse in 2001. A number of his paintings from the late 1980's to the early 2000's took on the appearance of landscape pieces, but still included a variety of other interesting elements. They were landscapes with his usual creative twist.

This is one on the many paintings that will be featured in an exhibition of his paintings July 7-9 at the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder, Colorado.

Fish appeared in many paintings by Luis Eades. They were often depicted in combination with multiple other elements as part of larger scene. In the case of this 28"x36" oil painting he completed in 1997, fish are the main subject of the painting. As the painting title "Pisces" would suggest.

This colorful 36"x 55" oil painting by Luis Eades dates back to 1974. The title of this one is "Habitat" In the early 1970's, he did a number of pieces in which he depicted portions of the painting being peeled back to reveal additional layers of imagery below. These paintings certainly speak to his almost limitless creativity.
