I completed this painting of a Bobcat a couple of years ago. It's titled "Stalking the Madison". The setting for the painting is the Madison River in Yellowstone. Bobcats are sometimes seen in winter along the banks of the river where the hunting is easier.

I recently completed this 16"x24" oil painting titled "Breaking Cover". It's been a number of years since I've done a painting of a whitetail deer. I had so much fun with this one, I have plans for a couple more whitetail paintings in the next year or so.

I've been working on a series of 12"x16" pencil portraits of North American big game animals. This one depicting a large male Grizzly Bear is the most recent addition.

This is a 12"x16" oil painting I finished last year. I sure enjoyed working on this one. The combination of the warm colors of the fox and the blues of the snow were a lot of fun to paint!

My father was an artist and art educator who shared his passion for art with his many students at both the University of Texas and the University of Colorado. This year marks the 100th anniversary of his birth. To honor this milestone, I have created a new page dedicated to his life and his artwork.

Please feel free to share this page with anyone who might be interested. He was a prolific painting with seemingly limitless creativity, so there will be many more posts to come. These will include the announcement of a special exhibition of his work coming this summer.

100 years ago, Luis Eades was born in Madrid, Spain.  So began his extraordinary life and artistic journey that would span nine decades and touch the lives of countless people across several continents.  He was gifted artist and art educator who shared his vision and his passion for art with students at the University of Texas from 1954 to 1961 and the University of Colorado from 1961 until his retirement in 1988.  Although has passed away in 2014 at the age of 91, he lives on in our hearts and in his many unique and thought provoking paintings which hang in museum and private collections across the country.

My most recent painting titled "Freedom" was inspired by a trip to Alaska last March. I spent almost a week surrounded by eagles in the Kachemak Bay area near Homer. What an incredible experience!

This is a recently finished painting of a Tree Swallow illuminated by the first rays of morning sun while perched on a strand of barbed wire. It's certainly not an action painting. Mostly just playing with light and shadow on a colorful subject. The painting is an 11"x14" oil titled "Golden Hour".

This one goes back a number of years. It's an oil painting titled "Gone Fishing". With their shaggy coats and interesting personalities, bears make such wonderful painting subjects.

This oil painting titled "Morning Swim" goes back a few years. Rocky Mountain Elk are one of my favorite subjects to paint and I really had fun with this one! This was scene I witnessed one chilly September morning at a mountain lake not far from where I live. Elk are very much at home in the water and don't seem to hesitate when it comes to crossing water obstacles.

This is a recently finished painting called "Hiding Place" which depicts a newborn Mule Deer fawn resting in tall grass. Deer will leave their young fawns in a safe hiding place while they venture out to feed. The fawn's best defense against predators is to keep a low profile and trust their natural camouflage.

Many thanks to DJ Hannigan for the reference photo!
