A Message from the President of City Theatre of Independence, Aaron Wilson

Over the past several days, concerns have been shared regarding our recent audition process. As the newly elected President of City Theatre of Independence, I want our community to know that we have listened.

Our performers, volunteers, patrons, and members are the heart of this organization, and we are committed to ensuring that every audition is conducted fairly and consistently.

A majority of the Board of Directors has adopted a new Casting and Audition Policy, effective immediately.

The policy includes:

• No pre-casting or promises of roles before auditions.
• Publicly announced auditions for all productions.
• If video auditions are accepted, they must be announced in the original audition notice and made available equally to all.
• Video auditions will be reviewed by the Production Team and a Board Liaison.
• Individuals who audition will be considered before roles are offered to those who did not audition.
• Official cast lists will be released by City Theatre of Independence after the casting process is complete.

These standards establish clear expectations for future productions and reaffirm our commitment to providing every performer with a fair opportunity to be considered.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support City Theatre of Independence. We look forward to moving ahead together and continuing to create quality theatre for our community.

Hey theater friends,

You’re invited to audition for Ron Clark & Sam Bobrick’s comedy “Murder at the Howard Johnson’s” for City Theatre of Independence. Auditions are Monday, June 29, 2026 and Tuesday, June 30, 2026 from 6-8:30 pm with callbacks on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script, Please bring a list of conflicts and a headshot if you have one. Performances are September 11-13, 2026 and September 18-20, 2026. Auditions will be held at the Roger T Sermon Center 201 N Dodgion in Independence, MO 64050. Scripts will be available from the Sermon Center front desk with a security deposit of $20 (cash or check) starting on Wednesday June 17, 2026. Let us know if you have any questions. I look forward to seeing you at auditions 😎🎭
