On April 24th, 2026, our IHS art students traveled to Pittsburgh High School for the SEK league art show. IHS sent 25 works of art, ranging in various media. Students were divided into 2 groups and had 3 hours to complete a challenge. The 2D group brought paint and brushes. They were given a 3x5 piece of matte board and the prompt to create their mascot in the Art Nouveau style. The 3D team brought 25 LBS of clay and created vessels in the Art Nouveau style, inspired by the notable ceramicist, Carol Long. 2D team won their challenge, earning our team 10 points. Matthew Shepard placed one of the five best in the shown awards for his onyx and sterling ring, earning our team 10 points. Our art students earned 5 Artistic Excellence awards (5 points each) and five Artistic Merit awards (3 points each). IHS art students earned 3rd place overall at the league art show.
Both Ms. Behnke and Ms. Milligan are so proud of the team work we saw today. The teams were chosen across all of the art classes. It is not easy to pull together and follow through with the prompts to create a finished project in the 3 hour time limit. We saw great communication, kindness, patience, and team work.
Works of art will be on display at Fine Arts Night on May 5th, 2026. Please join us and celebrate IHS artist!
