OTIS BURRIS AND GEORGE PEGREM discuss the finer points (or maybe the rising cost of funnel cake), circa the late 1960s. Join Otis' family and friends on September 13 at 1:00 in the historic Fries Theatre to pay tribute to his legacy. Otis' grandsons form the core of the award-winning old-time band, Southern Pride, and will lead the musical showcase and storytelling.

Fiddler Otis Burris, from the Summerfield community of Grayson County, is known for distinctive fiddling that won many first place ribbons at Galax and other fiddlers’ conventions. He led memorable bands from the 60-80s, such as The Mountain Ramblers and The Spring Valley Boys.

Konnarock Critter legends and generous supporters of Legends of Grayson, Brian Grim and Debbie Grim Yates, are featured in a new Virginia Folklife documentary.

Brian lives in the farmhouse he built in Elk Creek while Debbie resides in the Konnarock cabin their father built.

Check the top of the article for details on The Yates Family Band performance at the Whitetop Mountain Ramp Festival this Sunday, May 17. The band plays at 1:40 as part of a mountain music show that runs 11-5:00 p.m.

Music runs deep in the Grim family. Fiddler Brian Grim and banjoist Debbie Grim Yates, founding members of the influential old-time band The Konnarock Critters, learned from family and local music legends before passing those traditions on to the next generation.
