Welcome to Lava Flow Taiko, the successor of Yamataiko Idaho! The art of taiko blends drumming and dance in a way that builds physical strength, cultivates discipline and most importantly, enriches a person's life with fun and friendship!

A Brief History of Taiko:

Taiko refers to the Japanese art of drumming. The word "taiko" in Japanese literally translated means "drum." For thousands of years the taiko served as an art integral to the culture of Japan. Taiko were utilized for religious ceremonies, festivals, as war drums and even used to mark the borders between towns.

In 1951, the art of taiko was revitalized by Daihachi Oguchi as "kumi-daiko," where groups perform as an ensemble. This modernized form of taiko drumming spread and throughout Japan and overseas. In the modern day, there are taiko groups in almost every country in the world!
