The Beltway Drama Series is accepting submissions for our second season showcasing the work of DC Metro-area playwrights. The productions will take place at the Busboys and Poets in Hyattsville, MD (on Route 1 just south of College Park) beginning in September 2012.

We are looking for local playwrights who want to stage readings, put on 10-minute or one-act plays, do monologues/performances, or mount full-length plays. All playwrights are responsible for assembling everything they need for the event: readers, actors, props, tech people, promotion. Busboys will provide the stage, lighting, and sound. We will help with promotion and organizing a post-show talk-back.

We are accepting all types of drama, but they have to meet the following criteria:

1) They must be by a DC-area playwright;
2) They must address social justice, political, or international issues;
3) They must fit on the rather small stage in the Zinn Room at the Hyattsville Busboys and Poets.
4) They should also be “shovel-ready.” In other words, we’re looking for works that can be staged (or read) with a relatively short turn-around time.
5) Finally, we are putting an emphasis on diversity – a variety of different forms, of issues tackled, and of the playwrights themselves.

The deadline for submission is July 16, 2012. Decisions will be made by August 13.

To qualify as a submission, we need

• The full script, in Word or PDF by email
• A 50-word biography
• Short explanation of how the submission meets the five series criteria listed above
• Contact information on a title page

Please send your script to [email protected] by July 16, 2012.
