Tomorrows the day!!! During the last hour of the Open House Exhibit, we will have a small comedy show organized by

James Rios is a comic from the San Fernando Valley in CA who is exploring the thriving comedy scene here in Austin, TX. He is the owner of a comedy venue that hosts independently runned comedy shows. He has had producers such as Lin Sun, Miranda Meadows, and Keith Graber do shows at his venue.

"Similar things I've noticed is that the love for comedy exists here just like in LA. The comics here really enjoy performing and practicing their art. The open mics are also similar in where it can be a lot of waiting around to perform for a small group of comics. Shows out here are awesome as well. Loads of people to interact with. Very fun. Big crowds."

We also asked James what the difference was between the words 'comic' and 'comedian.' He replied, "there's a history to the word comic."

In simple terms, "A comic is a person who does stand up comedy. A comedian is any performer who is funny. A comedian is an umbrella term that include comics, actors, and musicians as well."

Fun fact about James, Bluey is his fav Disney+ show

Catch James and several other comics during the last hour (8pm-9pm) of the Open House Exhibit, TOMORROW, APRIL 23, 4pm-9pm!!! 🤩🤩🤩

Lauren is a glass artist who received a BFA with a concentration in Glass from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). She’s been blowing glass for 15 years now!

She is originally from Blue Ridge, Virginia but moved to Austin after working for the Corning Museum of Glass (CMOG) in Corning, New York.

“While working for CMOG, I blew glass as a form of entertainment on board Celebrity Cruise Ships. It was on the top deck with all the electric equipment. I have had the world and I am so grateful for my experiences.”

Lauren creates and sells a variety of items from vases, glassware, cute mushroom sculptures 🥺, etc. And yes, all made by blowing and molding glass! Follow her instagram for some cool behind the scenes of how her pieces come to life.

See her work in person at the Open House Exhibit on Saturday, April 23 and get yourself or your friends/family some handmade glassware! 🤩

Got the opportunity to check out Southwestern University's senior art show a couple weeks ago. So much amazing talent. The body of work by .art were a few of the fabulous pieces that caught my eye.

Olivia beautifully integrates nature and the human form together in her dreamy and thought-provoking collection, "Biophilia." I look at these paintings and can't help but think - we truly are connected to nature. A longer look at each piece slowly reveals new anatomical structures that aren't as obvious or easily seen. Excellent work.

"La Bebecita is really about celebrating and empowering women. It’s a love letter to my Latinidad and all the women in my life including those in my family I grew up looking up to.

La Bebecita, 'the baby girl,' in Spanish, is a nickname of sorts. The whole concept/birth of the brand was inspired by my latin roots—my culture, my ancestors, and my great grandmother Rosa Garcia, she’s my whole heart. Hands down, the strongest woman I know. The purpose behind all of it isn’t about the clothing really. I’m really just trying to share her story."

Natalie is an Austin native, though her family immigrated from Mexico. She aims to inspire women in same way her great grandmother inspired her. Her goal is to create a community of empowered women who are looking to empower other women. In a broad sense, she wishes to spread waves of positive vibrations through her products and content, both geared toward women and male allies alike. If you follow Natalie on instagram (la bebecita herself), you can already tell that La Bebecita is a physical and tangible manifestation of who she is: empowerment and good vibes 💯

More on “La Bebecita” - aesthetically it’s got urbano/reggaeton influences. “Bebecita” is something you hear in the lyrics, sometimes an ad-lib.

Catch La Bebecita and cop yourself a La Bebecita tee at the Open House Exhibit on Saturday, April 23!!!

: .art ! 🔥

Alex was born in Austin, but because his dad was in the navy, he grew up all around the country. In fact, Alex served as an officer in the US Army as well. When he left the service in 1992, he moved back to Austin where he "talked his way into UT". He was also a chef and a web developer at one point in his life too! A man of many talents.

Alex was always interested in photography but didn't pursue it until around 2011.

"I prefer analog over digital. There’s something about the process that speaks to me. I like being forced to take things slower, to shoot less"

Alex primarily shoots in medium format using his Mamiya RB67 and tries to do everything himself in regards to producing his work…

"Not only do I shoot primarily with an analog camera, but I develop the film myself, scan it and process in Lightroom/Photoshop. I’m working on the processes to print myself using alternative processes like platinum & palladium, and cyanotype"

Comment which of these photos you like the best! And then come check out Alex's work at the Open House Exhibit on Saturday, April 23!

Thira (Thee-Rah) is a painter who studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago before transferring to Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX. She has always been interested in painting and drawing human figures. However, the Texas Hill Country and concerns about the impacts of climate change has sparked a new passion for painting landscapes. She says, “I am still in the process of finding how I can connect climate and land concerns into my paintings, but painting the land around me has helped me begin building a path for brighter ideas ahead.”

Thira’s biggest inspiration is her mother. “Although she may also be my biggest critic at times, my mom always has the brightest ideas and a genuine care for others that I wish to harness myself.”

A fun fact about Thira is that her name originates from the ancient name of what is now the Greek Island of Santorini. However, she is not Greek nor has she ever been to the island herself.

Come check out her paintings at the Open House Exhibit on April 23rd where she will be selling original pieces!
