Unfinished Painting

Inspiration story:

2009
We were assigned to create a transformation animation video in digital design. I transformed a panda into a ferret (inspired by my ferret at the time). This led to me creating more of that story in my oil painting class…. Which got me thinking of the division of cells/cytokineses (inspired from anatomy class); anaphase and telophase…
In a delirium state as I would wake up to work the 5 am shift at Starbucks and then head to UTA afterwards to my studio class where I would often arrive a little late from traffic but I gave it my all ✨

Oil paintings can take years to finish.

Should I keep working on it?

Throwback to 2010:

I created this bone sculpture by resting leather- hard coils onto rolling pins and then placing them in an arrangement; mimicking vertebrae in an abstract cluster until they were “bone-dry” and ready for the kiln. 💀

This was one of my favorites and I used it in my art show senior year at UTA.

It ended up falling and breaking when I brought it home from the studio and I was sad but maybe it can inspire someone to create their own ✨

Van Gogh’s flower of choice: Sunflowers. 🌻
While living in France, he came across sunflowers growing in Montmartre’s vegetable gardens. Their ‘rustic’ charm likely appealed to him.

In the 19th century, some painters became closely associated with a single bloom – and for Van Gogh, it was the sunflower.
