$200 million for truck parking. Is it enough?

The Department of Transportation has announced $200 million for truck parking projects across 12 states.

For years, drivers have struggled to find safe, legal places to park when their hours run out. It's a problem that affects both highway safety and drivers' ability to get the rest they need.

It's a step in the right direction, but announcing funding and actually having parking spaces available are two different things.

What do you think? Is $200 million enough to make a difference? And where do we need more truck parking the most?

Trucking has changed a lot over the years.

Paper logs became electronic. Pay phones and CB radios gave way to cell phones and GPS. Truck stops changed. Equipment changed. Regulations changed. Even the way drivers find their next load has changed.

For those who've been around long enough to remember, what's one thing from the old days of trucking you wish had never changed?

And for the newer drivers, what's something you've heard about the old days that you wish you could have experienced?

Here's the future of trucking.

Some kids grow up around trucks, learning from family and experienced drivers long before they ever get behind the wheel.

Others enter the industry without that advantage. They go through driving school, get their CDL, and hit the road. But there's a lot about trucking that can't be learned in a classroom.

And sometimes, the drivers who need guidance the most are the ones who never ask for it. Not because they don't want to learn, but because they don't know what questions to ask.

A good mentor doesn't just answer questions. They teach you things you didn't even know you needed to ask.

So here's a question for the trucking community. How do we reach those new drivers who need guidance but aren't asking for it?

After all, they're the future of our industry.

FRIDAY TRUCK TALK

New trucks keep getting more advanced, but there's something about the older rigs that still turns heads.

Some drivers wouldn't trade today's comfort and technology for anything. Others would climb back into an old-school truck tomorrow if they had the chance.
