WAKE UP! . . . gently, . . . but don't stop yourself from feeling the urgency. . . when you have a realization. . . when something *clicks!* -- when a fact sinks into your consciousness and you finally comprehend, allow yourself to flow with the rhythm of this knowing, and adjust responses. . . don't forget the dream that shook you out of unconsciousness and gifted you your epiphany. . .don't ignore it, don't discount it. Whatever area of your life this new awareness affects -- your social life, religious life, family life, work life, love life, etc. move forward in growth, making personal growth primary, . . . and refuse to regress, or conceal your strengths. This painting with clock accessories encourages you to Wake Up and Stay Woke, no matter what this area could be.The model, my teenage son has strong, fresh eyes to look at the world and we wish fresh eyes with keen eyesight and insight on you, as well. Keep your footing firm and replenish your spirit each time you gaze at this timely reminder. -- Dahlia Jarrett, Oil on wood with clock accessories, 120.00 . All proceeds go to the "Jamaica" fund for children's visit with elderly grandparent.

Which artwork had the biggest impression on me in childhood?.. The 'Big eyed" children paintings of the 1960's The artist was inspired by the eyes of young starving children while traveling abroad. At my grandmother's home in Jamaica, I have stared deep into those eyes and felt like I was looking into the soul of each little child. Would love to hear/see what art impressed you the most as a child... (Sorry cant get the image up, but the address is typed up, please Google if you want to see the image..) Tell what you think! ..and how you FEEL about looking into those big sad girl eyes of the two from the inner city who can't sell lemonade...

Commitment cake - Celebrating unions of all sorts in our lives. Acrylic on satin. Learn more:
Using a cake icing tool tiny acrylic florettes were gently pressed onto the surface with great precision, intention, concentration and focus, in order to get them all the same size, shape, consistency... there are thousands of tiny little florettes on this satin covered sculpture... Cupping your hands over the florette tips, they are prickley to the touch...the roundness mirrors eternity, neverendingness....perhaps an invitation to an embrace? How many florettes does it take to demonstrate unconditional love and commitment? How much consistency to prove that you are true? The love of creating this work is emitted from my grandmother's cake decorating tool kit., which I had fell in love with...almost 200 pieces... Cant get them like that anymore...My grandmother was very popular on the island of Jamaica. Growing up, I always loved her joyous laugh, and pleasant demeanor, how giving she was, and how others enjoyed being around her. There was many an evening sitting with her on the back veranda, watching the sun set, me staring into the breadfruit tree, and surrounded by her family, friends or neighbors, who laughed joked and smiled together with her on a nightly basis. Grandmothe Ethline bore 11 children...her husband was police leitenant of the island, and while staying home, she used her seamstress skills create custom wedding gowns and elaborate black Jamaican rum wedding cakes. -- you know the ones with hommade frosting and decorations I called "little silver bullets" as a kid...all those were made upon request. I always thought this was such a joyous and lovely, sacred way to spend her energy...invested in the most important day in the lives of so many... Initiating them through the love of her touch, and trusting her taste, to help them start their new life journey and emotional commection to a loving partner. Spirit flowing into this art peice from one generation to the next, if that doesn't embody commitment, consistency, loyalty and positive intention, don't know what does....
Dahlia Jarrett, Acrylic on satin, paper board construction, $480.00.
