A full jazz ensemble, strings, horns, and voices — all live, all in one room. That's what Dreamland's live room was built for.

Mark Berman's "The Moon, The Stars," from The Genesis Project, was captured here in October 2019: an environmentally and human-rights-conscious meditation on the Creation, performed by a remarkable ensemble including La Chanze and Emily Bindiger on vocals, a full horn section, and strings. Produced in collaboration with Lena Khandros and Momentum Artists.

Forty years on, the room still gives big, ambitious music the space it needs.

Forty years in, and Dreamland is still where new voices come to make their mark.

Eddy Lee Ryder brought "Bad Decisions" to life here as part of the Dreamland Sessions — a full-band performance captured live in our room. Devin Collins on drums, James Preston on bass, Nicky Barbato on guitar, Simon Kafka on piano, Micah on keys, and Abby Payne and Joanna Levine on background vocals, filmed by Doug Karr and Jeff Harris.

This is the living, present-day side of Dreamland's story — the same room that's hosted four decades of records, still doing exactly what it was built to do.

Some sessions push the boundaries of what a recording can even be.

In 2021, three remarkable musicians — Jordan Rudess, Steve Horelick, and Jerry Marotta — gathered in Dreamland's live room for a singular concert, captured with multiple 360° cameras and ZYLIA's 6DoF system for true 3D spatial audio. The result lets you move through the performance: turn your view a full 360°, shift between vantage points, and hear perfectly synchronized spatial sound from wherever you stand in the room.

It's also the perfect way to experience the thing that makes Dreamland Dreamland — the acoustics of a 19th-century church, captured so completely you can feel the space around you.

Forty years of history, meeting the future of recording.

This one's close to home.

Skeye came to Dreamland to record a live version of "Sea & The Stars" — the title track from their studio album — and the session has special meaning for us, because it features two people from the Dreamland family: engineer John Valesio and Lindsey Skeye.

There's something fitting about that. For forty years, Dreamland has been more than a place artists pass through — it's a community, and sometimes the people who keep this studio running step in front of the mic and make the music themselves.

Here's "Sea & The Stars," live in the room we love.

Some performances belong to the room they were captured in.

In September 2017, Jesse Marchant brought "Illusion of Love" to life at Dreamland for a live session film — a single, beautifully crafted "Frame for One." Director Jen Steele and a four-camera crew captured the performance in the studio's stained-glass live room, with D. James Goodwin engineering and producing, and a band featuring Logan Coale, Anthony LaMarca, and Jason Lawrence.

The result is the kind of thing Dreamland was built for: a song, a space, and the light pouring through those church windows, all caught in a single take.

Forty years on, this is still a place where artists come to make something that lasts.

Some sessions capture the spirit of Dreamland perfectly — and VIDAR's is one of them.

The band recorded their self-titled debut album here in Woodstock with Swedish artist Anna Ternheim producing and Adam Armstrong (Fleet Foxes, Sufjan Stevens, Simone Felice, Neneh Cherry) at the controls. True to the residential Dreamland experience, the sessions spilled beyond the live room: the band tracked outdoors at studio owner Jerry Marotta's home (Peter Gabriel, Stevie Nicks, Elvis Costello, Suzanne Vega) and gathered in the kitchen with chef and executive producer Claes Olson.

And in a moment that says everything about this place, both Maud and Garth Hudson of The Band and John Sebastian of The Lovin' Spoonful stopped by to say hello.

Forty years on, Dreamland is still where music and community come together. Here's "Too Tired" and "Not A Home" from VIDAR's debut.

Some artists don't just record at Dreamland — they belong here. 🎹

Woodstock-based singer-songwriter, pianist, and somatic therapist Luis Mojica brought his singular vision to Dreamland for this stunning live performance of "Mirror" — surrounded by an extraordinary ensemble including cellist Melora Creager, multi-instrumentalist Elizabeth Clark, bassist Kory Mathis, guitarist Isaac Berk, and drummer Evan Glenn Adams. Captured by engineer Ariel Shafir in November 2024, the performance reflects everything Luis does best: deeply personal, post-genre music that blurs the line between song and ceremony.

Inspired by Leonard Cohen, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, and Joanna Newsom, Luis has spent years developing his unique voice right here in the Hudson Valley — and this performance feels like a natural homecoming.

As we celebrate 40 years of Dreamland, we're grateful this room continues to welcome artists who make music this alive.

Every now and then, a band walks into Dreamland and makes something that turns heads. 🎸

Audio Revival — the New York rock quartet of Jake Flaherty, Ben DeFusco, Chad Flaherty, and Steve Purcell — did exactly that with their EP Animals, released September 1, 2016. The record debuted in the top 200 on both the NACC and CMJ charts and earned a nomination for Best Rock EP at the 15th Annual Independent Music Awards. This music video for the title track "Animal" was filmed right here at Dreamland — a band at the top of their game, in a room built for exactly this kind of energy.

As we celebrate 40 years of Dreamland, we love looking back at sessions that crackled with this kind of momentum.
