This is the under painting -grisaille layer. In my painting process i work in a lot of layers-so first I seal and then gesso the surface (a wood panel in this case), then put a thin layer of acrylic paint-burnt umber here. Then I do the grisaille painting to give me the range of darks and lights I need to give the figure her form. This is the most important layer for me. Everything from here in will build in this.
