Last day at River Clay. Got sunburned yesterday, so I had to engineer myself some shade today. Steve would be proud of my ingenuity.
10/21/2023
River Clay is open and the weather is amazing!
10/20/2023
River Clay Art Festival this weekend, and I got new cards sets back just in time! Sassy Halloween Cats, Sassy Holiday Cats, Sassy Cats, Garden Beauties, and Harrison Brothers Hardware Magic.

Tonight is Open Studio Night at Lowe Mill A&E! I’m here until 7, and ALL the studios will be open from 5-7. The galleries are having closing receptions too, so don’t miss your last chance to see the current exhibits!
09/21/2023
The studio will be closed today. The kids have an appointment in the middle of the day, so I'm just gonna work from home. I'll be in Friday from 11-4 and Saturday from 11-3.
09/18/2023
Tent, rug, and print racks hosed down and drying out. Car emptied of everything for Rigel and I’s trip to Birmingham tomorrow. Then Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning I’ll load all the art back in the car to haul to Lowe Mill to have it ready for moving help upstairs at 9am Wednesday morning. I’m tired. I was tired before I did anything this morning. And I washed the cars, because I was soaking wet anyway, and the cars hadn’t been washed for at least 4 months.
09/18/2023
Thank you to everyone who came out this weekend and stopped by to chat, give me a hug, or buy something. I so appreciate all the support. It was a good weekend, even if it was more emotionally exhausting than I was expecting. Thanks to Arts Huntsville for an awesome event. You all always do such a good job. However, now that I’ve had a spot where I can park behind my booth, I won’t want anything else 😂 And thanks to Eric Shultz for taking this perfect photo. I love it. Today’s weather was just fantastic, and it definitely feels like fall is coming. Change is inevitable.

It’s beautiful up on Monte Sano today! Come on up.
09/16/2023
We’re open at Monte Sano. It’s raining right now, and I look like something the cat drug in, but I’m set up.
09/15/2023
The Sassy Cats calendars are here! Don’t forget today is the last day for special preorder pricing on my website. Starting tomorrow the prices go up to the following - Big calendar: $25 or 2 for $45; Mini calendar: $15 or 2 for $25, or one of each size for $35. I’ll have them at the Monte Sano Art Festival this weekend!
09/15/2023
Tent is up and hooks are in. I’ll hang everything in the morning. I cried on the drive here, which I wasn’t expecting. I thought that since this is not Panoply, I would be ok. I expected Sunday when we close to be rough since Steve always came to help me pack up. So many firsts without him, and all of them suck. Hopefully it will be a good weekend seeing friends and selling art!
09/09/2023
I picked up the calendar proofs yesterday! My printer is hoping to have these ready for me in time for Monte Sano. Special preorder pricing ends this Friday, September 15th.
09/08/2023
New Sassy Cats stickers are on my website. I’ll have these at the Monte Sano Art Festival too. Don’t forget the 2024 Sassy Cat Calendar preorders end September 15th.
09/06/2023
Sassy Cats prints are now available on my website. You can order prints with the backgrounds and words as seen in the 2024 Sassy Cats Calendar or just the cats on a white background like the original art. I'll have the originals added to the site soon. Don't forget the special preorder pricing for the calendars ends on September 15th. https://chromaddict.com/product-tag/sassy-cats/
09/04/2023
Sassy cats are getting their spray varnish. Tent got washed and sprayed with water repellent.
09/02/2023
If you’re at the Mill and can’t come up to the 2nd floor, I’m happy to run stuff down to you. My website has a lot of my art on there…admittedly not all….but that’s a great way to get an idea of what I have and what you’re interested in seeing.
For about four weeks, the elevator at Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment has been out of operation. This has not only impacted visitors but the artists on the second and third floors as well.
09/01/2023
All the original sassy cats are mounted to cradled boards. Now I’m trying to decide if I just keep the white background or add color, etc. What do you think? I am going to paint the edges black. Half of me likes the simplicity and focus on the cat. The other half of me wants to add color 😂🤪
08/29/2023
I usually make prints from my calendar cats. Would you prefer the cat on a simple white background or do you want the fun backgrounds and sayings from the calendar included?
08/28/2023
The 2024 Sassy Cats Calendars are now available for preorder through September 15th. The calendars feature illustrations drawn by hand with colored pencils. Each cat has a sassy and/or positive saying to go with it. Mini Wall Calendars are $10 preorder and 11x17 Wall Calendars are $20 preorder. The price will increase after September 15th, so order now! Order on my site - https://chromaddict.com

It's almost September!
08/25/2023
The cat calendar is coming together!
08/19/2023
The calendar cats are getting pretty close to being finished!
08/17/2023
Home a little earlier than normal from the studio so I can enjoy the last afternoon of nice weather.

It’s too nice to be inside. I’ve been coloring on my little deck most of the afternoon.
08/13/2023
Cats are coming along.
08/11/2023
12 cats drawn and ready for color.
08/09/2023
It’s been 13 weeks since I lost my husband, and I’m still here. Honestly, there are days I wish I wasn’t, but I’ve got kids and cats to take care of. Now that school has started, I plan to keep my regular hours in the studio at Lowe Mill. I’ll be at the Monte Sano and River Clay art festivals this fall. I am working on art for the 2024 cat calendar. As far as the future goes, I’m not entirely sure. I do hope you’ll stop by the studio or one of the fall shows and say hi.

Thanks to everyone who came out to Nerdy Noel presents: Midsummer Market! It was a good show to start back with. Thank you to Komai's Oh My for putting it together, all the volunteers, and my friend Carol for helping me all day. I didn’t remember to take a single picture, so here’s a photo of mushroom cat. I so appreciate everyone’s support ❤️

My husband passed away earlier this month. He was my everything. I’m not sure when I’ll return to my normal studio hours, but I am in the studio now and then.
04/28/2023
I am sorry to report that I am not at Panoply this year. My husband had a medical emergency this morning, and I am at the hospital with him. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. I will be putting all the new art on my website when I can, and it will be in the studio whenever I get back there.
04/27/2023
Hand painted penny tile charm necklaces for Panoply ❤️ AND…I’m now in booth 115, over near where I was last year. I’m the last booth!
04/25/2023
New art means means new pendants! These will be available at Panoply this weekend.
04/24/2023
I’m printing prints for a Panoply! If there’s one you’re hoping to snag this weekend, let me know. I’ll try and make sure I’ve printed it, but no guarantee that someone else doesn’t love it before you get there ❤️
04/19/2023
Probably about the last batch of new pieces that will be ready for Panoply. These will start the varnish process tomorrow.
04/17/2023
Trying to get a few more new pieces finished up in time for Panoply.
04/12/2023
The studio will be closed Wednesday and Thursday this week. I do plan to be there Friday and Saturday!

I think the white tiger is finished. Maybe? I tried adding some “gold” leaf to it, and it really adds some sparkle.
This one is “Two For Joy.” It will be available at the Monte Sano Art Festival in September. #crow #birdart #animalcreatives #artshuntsville #huntsvilleartist #findyourjoy #mixedmedia #ilovecolor #lowemillarts #montesanoartfestival #workingartist #keepcreating
Creating white outlines with colored pencils
Normally I would create white outlines with a Posca paint pen, but since this piece needs to be 100% colored pencils, I get to scrape in the white outlines. I use this technique for the whiskers too.
Did you know you can purchase my art as mounted prints on my website and my Etsy store? Each print is mounted to a cradled board and sealed with the same UV varnish I use on my originals.
I’m Carrie Alderfer, owner of ChromAddict Studio. I have worked as a graphic designer and web developer for over 20 years, and I’ve accumulated over 30 American Advertising Awards. With any design project, I listen to you. We look at marketing materials you like AND don’t like. We pin down with words what you want your company image to say so I can translate it into a visual design. I’ve created everything from logos to billboards, so no project is too small or too large. My goal is to provide you with branding elements that will serve you for years to come, and marketing materials that help your business reach its goals.
I am also a professional artist and sell my art in my studio at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment, online, and at art fairs. My artwork focuses on the joyfulness of color combined with the beauty of animals, plants, and the world we live in. I love details, and I add color to my compositions to bring them out.
I am influenced by historical design, especially art nouveau and mid-century modern. I love capturing a feeling of awe and appreciation for the world around us. My drawings tell stories of special moments, living life in full color, humorous situations, and the sacredness of nature.
I work primarily with Prismacolor Premier colored pencils, but I also use acrylics, watercolor pencils, ink, and wax crayons. I create my works on various surfaces including paper and cradled birch panels. Cradled pieces are carefully sealed with 6 layers of a water-based UV protectant.
My work has been included in publications such as “Colored Pencil Magazine”, “Ann Kulberg’s Color! Magazine”, “Art Galleries and Artists of the South”, Strokes of Genius 6, and Colored Pencil Dogs & Cat. I was the Featured Artist in the 2016 Spring Edition of the Strathmore Artist Newsletter. Exhibits include Colored Pencil Society of America’s International Exhibition, Special Merit Awards in various exhibits on Light Space & Time Online Gallery, and regional art festivals and juried shows.
