We are so pleased to feature Decatur artist, Rebecca Sower this month with her new collection, Nature’s Layers. Rebecca is a mixed-media artist whose work is deeply rooted in the natural world around her. The Tennessee River, quiet walks through the woods, birds, wildlife, trees and the small details we might otherwise pass by all find their way into her work—not simply as subjects, but as experiences.

And Rebecca’s paintings truly are about layers. She builds each piece slowly, allowing marks, words, textures, color and imagery to accumulate and tell a story. Some things remain visible while others are partially hidden beneath what comes next, giving you the wonderful feeling that there is always something more to discover.

Join us Thursday, September 3 as we unveil Nature’s Layers and celebrate Rebecca and this beautiful new collection. We can’t wait for you to experience these pieces in person.

Come see the works of Kitty Weston this week! Inspired by florals and the natural world, Kitty’s paintings feel expressive, layered, and full of life. Using rich palette knife work and loose, intuitive brushwork, her work is filled with texture, movement, and atmosphere. We hope you’ll stop by the gallery to experience it in person. Open 10-5 Tuesday-Friday and 10-4 in Saturday.

It’s Texture Tuesday and we’re bringing you close up views of the variety of mediums we have in the gallery. Oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, and mixed media all bring their unique voice to our walls. And screens really don’t accurately convey the beauty and complexity of each piece. Come in this week and enjoy the work of 16 local artists and the beautiful textures they create!

If you’ve been thinking about joining us for Jennifer's workshop, consider this your little reminder!

Jennifer will be sharing how she captures mood and light in an interior scene—taking an ordinary space and using light, color and atmosphere to turn it into something that feels anything but ordinary.

Jennifer is a wonderful teacher and an incredibly accomplished painter, and this is a great opportunity to spend time learning how she sees, simplifies and translates those beautiful moments of light into paint.

Come by this week and enjoy the beautiful, ethereal works of Gretchen McKee. Gretchen is a working artist out of Huntsville, Alabama. She has her degree in Fine Arts from Auburn University, with a major in Printmaking and minors in Illustration and Painting. Gretchen has been working in one area or another of these fields for over 30yrs. We love Gretchen's collection here in the gallery and you should definitely come see it in person.
