Our Classical 2 program on November 6, Pictures for Your Ears, will take us to a special place where the composer's pen and the artist's paintbrush meet and interact. Pianist Vince Vajda will give the premiere of a new concerto written by his father, Maestro Gregory Vajda; the piece is called "The Dot That Went For a Walk," after painter Paul Klee's cheeky description of a straight line. Also on the program are colorful works by Liszt, Françaix, and Respighi. Botticelli's "La primavera," pictured here, is one of the artworks which inspired Respighi's Botticelli Triptych for chamber orchestra. We hope you'll join us for this family collaboration and a uniquely visual concert experience!

The Hungarian-American composer Miklós Rózsa {RO-zha} lived a "double life," as he described it — he was a classically trained creator of fine concert music, but also a Hollywood fixture as the author of nearly one hundred film scores, including Ben-Hur and Hitchcock's Spellbound.

On October 16, to open the new season's Classical Concert Series, HSO Concertmaster Josh Holritz and Principal Cello Jesse Christeson will star as virtuoso soloists in Rózsa's Sinfonia Concertante. Also on the program, music by two other Silver Screen Symphonists: Leonard Bernstein's evocative suite from On the Waterfront, and one of John Williams' most celebrated offerings, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
