I was looking through some unprocessed photos from trips last year and came across an OK sand dune shot and messed around with it. Here's a pleasing sand dune in White Sands National Park, at dusk. I think I'll use this one for a show submission.

The Central South Art Exhibition is a long-standing art exhibition bringing together artists in the South, including Tennessee and its adjacent states and Florida. Originally organized by Christian Gregory, whom the TAL dearly misses, when she was President of The Friends of the Tennessee Art League. For almost 50 years, it has been a spectacular impression of art from the region, including painting, sculpture, photography, and in recent years digital art. The Tennessee Art League (non-profit) is proud to re-establish this prestigious event in the spring of 2024, at the Metro Parks Centennial Art Center in Nashville, with the submission process starting in the fall of 2023. This is a juried exhibition of original artwork including oils, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, oil pastel, encaustic, colored pencil, silverpoint, graphite, pen and ink, digital art (NO AI), photography, scratchboard, charcoal, sculpture and mixed media.

Huntsville Art League library exhibit

Huntsville Art League artists Michael Redmond and Peter Hovanes are currently displaying their work in the atrium gallery of the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library main branch in downtown Huntsville. Their exhibit will run through November and December. Come on down and check it out! The main branch is located at 915 Monroe Street, Huntsville, AL.

Michael Redmond is a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He has extensive experience working in oil, acrylic and watercolors creating portraits, landscapes and still lives. Michaels professional background includes commercial illustrations, commissioned portraits, and architectural renderings. He spent over a decade working for an elite one-of-a-kind decorative arts studio in Chicago painting faux finishes and murals in private estates across the United States.

From Illinois to North Carolina and now Alabama Michaels paintings are inspired by photographs he’s taken in the surrounding areas. The famous photographer, Ansell Adams, once said there is enough subject matter within a 50-mile radius of where one lives to inspire them for the rest of their lives. Michael continues to be inspired by his surroundings here in Alabama.

Peter Hovanes lives and works in Huntsville, Alabama, dividing his time between photography, travel, and cooking. His photographic career started in Huntsville where he learned his craft by studying the work of Edward Steichen, Edward Westin, Edward Curtis, Imogen Cunningham, and Ansel Adams, as well as working with studio, newspaper, and industrial photographers in the area. It was at this time he began developing his nature photography and fascination with light, shape, shadows, and patterns.

Now retired from his “day job”, Peter is primarily focused on his photography. He currently uses digital, film and scanned imagery to express his artistic vision, creating images of ethereal landscapes, delicate flowers, and the play of light in the complex, yet simple, beauty of nature.
