www.yuriozaki.com Yuri Ozaki grew up in a small town in Mie Prefecture on the Kii Peninsula of Japan. Yuri came to the US in 2001 to study English.

The area is known for its unique wet climate and a mystical history. This area also features UNESCO World Heritage registered sacred sites and pilgrimage routes. While hiking some of these ancient trails during her visit to Japan in June 2011, Yuri was inspired to create a series of misty forest scenes. The beauty and mystery of her home region has been a strong influence on Ozaki's work. After fo
ur years of exploring the southeast, Yuri moved to Huntsville, AL - where she still resides with her husband. Since coming to Huntsville, she has been studying and painting much of the local scenery. Her paintings of downtown Huntsville have been very popular and these works - along with others - have earned her recognition and awards in the area.

First, I would like to announce that I will be at the Monte Sano Art Festival this weekend, Saturday 21st 9-5, Sunday 22nd, 9-4. https://www.artshuntsville.org/event/monte-sano-arts-festival/ I will have many recent paintings of Huntsville. They are on my website. Some of you may already know that...
I often paint the same subject multiple times. To me, painting is like playing a musical instrument. You must practice to get better at it. I painted these from a reference photo courtesy of Marty Sellers. All of them are 16"x12".
I had a great time at Harrison Brothers! Thank you to those who came out!
Recent Huntsville Paintings.
I am going to do a watercolor demonstration at Harrison Brothers Hardware in August. Details TBA.
Recent paintings of Downtown Huntsville
I am participating Monte Sano Art Festival this year after skipping it last year because I was working on the 12'x5'4" painting for the city hall. Currently I am painting many 9"x11" watercolor paintings of Huntsville. It feels good to finish a painting quickly instead of spending 7 months on a piece. Also, it feels good to use a No.10 paint brush instead of a No.2! If you are interested in purchasing these small paintings before Monte Sano Art Festival, please comment or email me [email protected] .
This aerial view of downtown is what I originally proposed for the public art project for the new city hall. The composition was modified due to the circumstances. I am happy with the end result and I am glad the plan was changed. I am incredibly grateful for Arts Huntsville and all the people who made this happen.
I am teaching watercolor at my studio again. There is a few spots available on Thursday May 9th 6-8pm. If you are interested, please email me [email protected]
In case you’re wondering if I am doing Panoply this weekend, I am not participating. Currently I am busy with teaching at Huntsville Museum of Art and at my studio. If you are interested, please go to museum website or contact me [email protected] These paintings are recent works.

The watercolor class is full. Drawing helps you to see your subject more objectively and build your foundation for painting in color. I will be teaching landscape, still-life and portrait. Students can pick one or more subjects to draw.
I hope everyone is having a good start of 2024. I went backpacking on New Year’s Eve to start my new year in the woods. Currently I am busy preparing for my upcoming classes at the Huntsville Museum of Art. I am teaching watercolor as well as drawing this season.
Wishing everyone a happy holiday season! I have not been active on social media much and if you have come by my studio this year, you might have seen me working hard. Here are some photos of recent sketches and a photo to show off my wrapping skills.

I’m going to do a free portrait drawing demonstration on Wednesday May 3rd 1p.m. It’s probably about an hour long. The space is tight, so I can only accept three people. I might offer it in the evening(6-7) if there is enough interest. Please email me if you are interested. [email protected]
I’m going to give away these paintings and many more at my studio. I’ll be there Wednesday-Friday noon-6pm. I won’t be there on Saturday since Tennessee Valley Museum of Art is having a closing reception.
Experimenting different methods and colors.
Hello!
I am pleased to announce that my studio partner Stacie Thomas and I are having a joint exhibition at Tennessee Valley Museum of Art beginning this Saturday March 18th. Stacie and I are very different in many ways. She paints in oil while I use water soluble media. While my paintings are very realistic and some people call them photorealistic, Stacie’s paintings represent her own vision; some might call them impressionistic. While I paint almost mechanically, Stacie goes through many ponderings and often discards unfinished or finished paintings which sometimes makes me cry. We appreciate our differences and we do share our love for hiking.
At this moment, we do not know if there is a reception or not. The exhibition closes on Sunday April 30th.

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
Reflecting on my 2022, there were both positive and negative events. I hope to practice this quote as much as possible.
Wishing you a very happy and prosperous new year!
