Yule Y’all! Christmas Market and Spirit Sampling

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Once again, we present our yearly Christmas market and spirit sampling event of the season. The market includes maker art, holiday creations, food, and music – all with a spirited chaser. Enjoy a luxurious winter stroll throughout the grounds and freshly decked halls. Samplings of local spirits will be available on site while supplies last, and at 5PM we light the fabled water tower to signify our bright and shiny stance for the season!

Windows will be well-dressed for the early gift getters out there, so get your Christmas cheer on and join us for the day. Krampus awaits your visit!

Edges is a contemporary song-cycle about four burgeoning adults asking classic coming-of-age questions. Written by Tony-nominated Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (Dogfight, James and the Giant Peach) in their sophomore year at the University of Michigan, this charming, witty and honest examination of adulthood explores what happens when we are teetering on the edges of our lives.

The songs cover such universal issues as love, commitment, identity and meaning. Characters deal with confronting emotions, escaping expectations and deciphering complicated relationships.

A live performance Fashion Show Fundraiser- all original designs made by Iris Billiter will be worn by eleven models, with a striking backdrop and live music.

Irisewn DESIGNS will once again showcase her revolutional creations worn by handpicked local models, in front of an stirring backdrop. The evening will be complemented by local intuitive musicians who will enliven each garment, along with seasoned voice actor Joshua Jones, Mastering the Ceremony. Rossina Boyer approaches the subject of her paintings with a balance of thoughtfulness and impulsiveness, which manifests itself in unpredictable ways. “The canvas and I go on a unique journey together, and sometimes we get lost, but we always find our way in the end,” says Boyer.

“When I paint, I let myself go. I sync my breath with the canvas, together we inhale and exhale color, porpoising in out of consciousness. Sometimes I unconsciously stop, taking a respite I didn’t realize I needed,” says Boyer. Sometimes the artwork takes hours, sometimes weeks, and sometimes months. But, it’s the same sense of passion each time that brings her back to the studio time and time again. “I paint for pleasure,” says Boyer. “A pleasure I love and wish to share with my collectors and the world.”

Rossina Boyer currently lives in Huntsville, Ala., where she maintains two art studios – one on the foothill of Monte Sano enveloped by Nature herself, and one downtown where she regularly meets with clients. Rossina is originally from coastal Northern Peru, where, as a child, she was instilled with an appreciation of cultural fusions.

“Rhythms and Movement” by Rossina Boyer will be on view in the Second Floor Connector Gallery from October 4 – November 18, 2023.

On Saturday, the Huntsville Comic Convention took over at Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment. There was something for everyone at this year’s Huntsville Comic Convention. Thousands of comic books, toys, J-POP, Manga & Anime Items, T-Shirts, jewelry, posters, collectibles, and more were all under the roof at our historic textile mill turned artist collective.

Folks were able to meet comic-word VIP’s like Macsen Lintz, Matt Lintz, Catherine Sutherland, Nakia Burrise, Mark Spears, and Bobby Nash in the VIP room in Studio 1047 at Lowe Mill A&E. Macsen Lintz is best known as Walking Dead’s Young Henry. Matt Lintz is well-known for Ms. Marvel’s best friend Bruno from the hit tv series. He was also Henry in The Walking Dead. Catherine Sutherland is the Pink Power Ranger. Nakia Burrise is the Yellow Power Ranger. Mark Spears is the artist for Spawn and related properties. Bobby Nash is an award-winning author in almost every field with over 165 published works.

Folks attended a workshop on saving Alabama’s Hemlocks on Saturday at Lowe mill ARTS & Entertainment. This poetry workshop gained inspiration from the eastern hemlock tree, and in particular, from the images in the Saving Alabama’s Hemlocks show. In a relaxed and supportive session, we will generate poems through a series of writing prompts.

Facilitated by Anne Markham Bailey and Sam Calhoun. This workshop is in collaboration with Wild Alabama, and is part of the Conservation Through Art: Saving Alabama’s Hemlocks show at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment.

Alabama’s Eastern hemlocks (Tsuga canadensis) are in danger of extinction if we do not prevent the spread of the hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA). The HWA is an invasive insect with no local natural predator in North America. It has been reported in east Alabama.

To protect one of the last remaining uneffected hemlock populations in the eastern U. S., the Bankhead District of the United States Forest Service invited Wild Alabama to partner with them to monitor for the adelgid. Wild Alabama has developed a community science project that engages schools, scout groups and individual volunteers. Early detection of the insect is key.

On Friday, the Huntsville Comic Convention kicked off at Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment. There is something for everyone at this year’s Huntsville Comic Convention. A little buzz about mead at the Ravenwood Meadery, located in Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment.

Rebecca Salee, a reporter with the Redstone Rocket, followed the story of bees making Blossomwood honey, which is a product of nectar from blossoming tupelo trees on the Arsenal, to becoming mead at Ravenwood Meadery. Ravenwood Meadery is in Studio 2069 on the second floor north at Lowe Mill A&E. Hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Redstone Arsenal bees have a role in the success of North Alabama’s first and only meadery.

Janwook Kim, a documentary photographer, works out of Studio 304 at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment. Kim has a unique perspective on America and Alabama which is conveyed in his photography. You can see his photographs of the 'ordinary looking out-of-the-ordinary' in the photographic prints covering his third-floor studio walls.

“America, the land that I live in, struck many foreigners as tall, massive New York skyscrapers, or the busy city life shown in the Hollywood movies. I once had a similar thought of this country before I immigrated to the States. But, the more I got familiar with the American culture, the more confident I became that every state has its own beauty."

“Here in Alabama, there are some unique attractions that other states cannot imitate, such as peaceful environments with beautiful nature and friendly people with good manners under a spirit of ‘Southern hospitality.’ That influenced me to grab a camera and pursue the passion of keeping the records of what I see and feel through the everyday life.”

“Everything is changing with no exceptions. All things that have life are changing and the things that never change are nonliving. Here, the town I’ve been living in for seven years also has changed, little by little, even though I hardly recognize it.”

“That is the reason why I want to resume my life as a photographer. Before vanishing without a trace, before losing our time in history, I am eager to keep our town and the community in the records. And after many years, our children will see what our life looking like and what we tried to keep for them.”

Neighborhood Garden is a series of screenprints, risographs and newspapers created by artist Katie Baldwin. Baldwin created this project while she was a Fulbright Scholar in Taiwan. By bicycle and on foot Baldwin explored the Taiwanese landscape. Between highways, concrete and the sea, small gardens were found.

Katie Baldwin’s work ‘Neighborhood Garden’ will be on view in the Third Floor East Gallery from October 4 – November 18, 2023. Lowe Mill A&E invites patrons and art lovers to join us for Open Studio Night on November 18 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., a building-wide experience when our over 150 studios will be open to the public. The evening also includes receptions for all seven of our gallery spaces.

The beats were thumping and the bones were shaking during the Monster Bash Halloween Party at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment on Saturday night.

World Conspiracy and Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment Center came together to bring you their annual Halloween Spooktacular Party! We transformed Lowe Mill A&E’s Connector with crazy decor that was a scene to scare the bravest trick or treater. Two DJs, Flip C. & Miss K spun all the grooving tunes, from hair-raising tunes to bone-rattling beats.

The halls of Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment were filled with Trick or Treaters on Saturday. Hundreds of kids (and adults) in costumes visited our hundreds of studios in search of candy. The artists of Lowe Mill A&E shared the Halloween spirit and invited the monsters into their studios.

On Friday, Ravenwood Meadery hosted a rain ceremony at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment. Ravenwood Meadery was planning to host Wickerman 2023 where they were going to burn a giant effigy of a bear. Due to the burn ban issued by the State of Alabama Department of Forestry, they were not allowed to burn the bear effigy. Instead folks celebrated with a Rain Ceremony in the hopes rain arrives soon.

Due to the second burn ban imposed on all of Alabama, including ceremonial fires, Ravenwood was unable to light the Wicker Man on Friday. The Wickerman will be burned when the Department of Forestry gives the green light.

Since Heilung fans traveled from afar for the Wicker Man, Ravenwood still wanted to do a ceremony and what better than ask for rain so that the second burn ban is lifted and we can light Ravenwood’s bear effigy soon? So a rain ceremony was held around the bear effigy with folks pouring water on the bear.

On Thursday, witches were walking throughout Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment. Every year, the Thursday before Halloween is Witches Day at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment. Witches Day started a few years ago by a member of the Lowe Mill A&E staff who has since jumped on her broom and flown to Greensboro.

On Friday and Saturday, we invite the public to join us and dress up in your best witch costume and pointy hat! Artists and customers are encouraged to get dressed up in all their witchy paraphernalia to come hang out at Lowe Mill A&E.

Both days at 3:00 p.m. there will be a Witch Walk through our historic textile mill. Meet at Sparkle Studio! Join us!

Van Gogh-Inspired Painting Class

Join Artist Stephanie Weaver in Studio 270 at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment for a Van Gogh- Inspired Painting Class.

In this class you will learn to paint a spine-tingling Van Gogh inspired 8×10″ acrylic painting just in time for Halloween! Get boo-tiful results with Stephanie’s class, whether you’re a spooky novice or a haunted expert! All supplies are provided.
