"You can see it in their Eyes" - Joy, Excitement and Exhilaration.
The MDMEF Concerts in the Classroom and Microwave Dave and the Nukes (Rick Godfrey and James Irvin) took to the stage at Monte Sano Elementary School Friday- doing what they do best - providing an academic and music history lesson of American culture and the Blues. The students sit in amazement and rock along with the beat. Dave has an engaging nature as he explains the roots and origins of how and where the blues come from.

Last week the students at the Academy for Academics and Arts Elementary School received a special treat when the very energetic and engaging RAP and R&B band - The N.E.I.G.H.B.O.R.S visited their school as part of the MDMEF Concerts in the Classroom. The Band which includes frontmen - Don and Jnarly who are brothers and Shaego who is their cousin had the students dancing in the aisles and joining the band on stage to recite their own poems and verse as a part of their first classroom assignment. As always - they brought the house down!

The inaugural winner for the “Best Local Band” category of the Best of Huntsville Awards is Microwave Dave and the Nukes!

Known by his nickname “Microwave Dave,” Gallaher is Huntsville’s signature and most beloved musician. Since 2015, he’s been honored with Microwave Dave Day, an annual all-day concert featuring some of the city’s best musicians, with a different lineup each year. In addition to rightly feting Gallaher, Microwave Dave Day has become one of Huntsville’s can’t-miss local music events.

Twenty years of performances in the U.S and Europe and six albums-with more on the way-have helped Microwave Dave & The Nukes establish a wide multinational audience. Their annual itinerary features music festivals and holiday engagements that have billed the act for fifteen consecutive years; motorcycle events for more than a dozen; and a considerable list of major hotels, international deep water fishing tournaments, schools and social organizations that re-acquire the group's services year after year.

Indeed, it is such continuous work that led the Alabama Blues Society to present the band its Blues Achievement Award in 2001, "for accomplishments in performing, writing and preserving blues music." As Microwave Dave puts it: "Blues is America's first-and still best-self-help program."

Three silver-haired dudes were hanging banners at Sunday’s Microwave Dave Day. They asked a young worker at Stovehouse if he had anything they could use to reach a 12-foot-high beam. He brought a 12-foot stepladder, stood it up and walked away. The three, aged 70, 71 and 72, just looked at one another. Finally, one spoke up, “I’m the oldest. I’ll climb it.” He figured the others had more life to live.

Microwave Dave Day is under way. Come join us 3 to 10 p.m. at Stovehouse.

It is so amazing to have the Music Cities Convention in our home town of Huntsville Alabama! Microwave Dave spent the morning speaking to a musician panel as the National nonprofit Music to Life held their first ever Huntsville Musician Changemaker Accelerator (MCA) Workshop conducted by Shawn Patrick and hosed by Liz Stookey Sunde, Co-Founder & Executive Director of Music to Life (Daughter of Noel Paul Stookey / of Peter, Paul & Mary) And then he made his way to the stage for the opening reception to partner with David Anderson - it was a local legends kind of evening. Kudos to to Matt Mandrella and the Music Office for putting Huntsville on the Music Map!!!
