Lovers of the Thoreau Woods Coffeehouse,
Since the Coffeehouse closed in 2020, and the Patio restaurant after that, Huntsville hasn’t had much opportunity to listen to original music from local artists. Fortunately, that will change next month with the beginning of “Sundown at Sam’s,” a free outdoor music series held on an old-timey stage at the SHSU Museum. This series was designed by Darren Grant, a longtime Coffeehouse attendee and supporter, to be a successor to the Coffeehouse—in fact, the idea first took hold in a conversion between him and me in December 2020. All musicians are from our area and most focus on original music. There will be some folk, some Americana, some blues, and some bluegrass, all in a beautiful, peaceful outdoor setting with the sun setting behind the trees.
This year’s series includes three concerts: Logan McCune (Americana) and Jesse Wortham (Blues/Gospel) on April 20, Gail Ryder and Mary-Charlotte Young (both Singer-Songwriters) on May 4, and Tin Top Road (Bluegrass) on May 18. The concert and parking are free, just bring a blanket or lawn chairs and (if you want) your own food and drink. All concerts begin at 6:30 pm and end by 9 pm.
